Position Summary:The primary responsibility of the Houseperson is to maintain cleanliness of public areas, in addition to assisting the Housekeeping department by delivering linen, stripping down rooms, assisting with special cleaning projects and helping the department maintain clean guest rooms. He or she is also responsible for assuring that all housekeeping storage areas are properly stocked and guest floors are clean & presentable.Experience & Education:Previous experience in hotel setting preferred but will trainHigh School diploma or equivalent preferred Requirements:Work Environment – Ability to work:With various type of equipment such as telephones, two-way radios, Housekeeping cart, laundry cart, vacuum, broom, window cleaner, furniture polish, all-purpose cleaner, dumpster/trash compactor sponge, mops and buckets, keys, hand vacuum, extension cord, door stopper, laundry chute, elevators, floor care products (i.e., stripper, was, sealer) carpet extractor, Wet/Dry VacuumUnder variable temperature conditionsUnder variable noise levelsOutdoors/IndoorsAround chemicals, fumes and or odor hazardsAround dust and or mite hazards Physical Requirements: Long hours sometimes requiredHeavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objectsAbility to bend, stretch, twist, stoop or reach with your body and arms repeatedly without difficultyAbility to stand for long hours and walk long distances without fatigue Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levelsNear Vision - The ability to see details at close range Mental Requirements: Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey & understand information and ideas in EnglishMust be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accuratelyMust be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessaryMust have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from multiple sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the particular needMust be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guestsMathematical Reasoning - Must be able to work with and understand basic arithmetic functionsMulti-lingual skills helpful Essential Duties & Functions:Approach all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service oriented mannerMaintain regular attendance, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotelMaintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, as defined in the hotel handbook, when workingComply at all times hotel’s policies and procedures to encourage safe and efficient hotel operationsCheck daily for assignments/ dutiesGather all cleaning supplies and return them dailyComplete all assigned cleaning duties in designated areasReport any engineering problems or repairs to the Housekeeping Supervisor or ManagerReturn any borrowed items (i.e. irons, boards, hairdryers, etc.) to Housekeeping department when removed from guestroomsVacuum carpet in hotel floors and public areasService and re-stock housekeeping closetsRemove gum, wall spots, and floor spots with appropriate chemicalsWipe glass, pictures, windows, and public telephone areasClean public restrooms and replace productsComplete closet inventorySign keys in and outEmpty Housekeeping carts of dirty linen, trash, etc.Assist in floor careKeep immediate supervisors fully informed of all challenges or matters requiring his/her attentionGain knowledge of all hotel facilities to answer questions from the guestsNon-Essential Duties:Assist in LaundryAssist hotel in completing special cleaning projectsAssist room attendants in cleaning rooms when neededStrip down hotel rooms before Housekeeper begins their dutiesOther duties as assigned
