Role Description
My client is an early-stage startup in the Berkeley, CA area. They are looking for an experienced, ambitious, and hands-on Electrical Engineer to specify, design, and develop power electronics components for a novel type of fusion energy generation technology. The focus of this position will be development of high-current/high-frequency power electronics to drive plasma current in our device. Using SiC MOSFETs and other modern power electronics technologies, you will design, test, and realize into production novel high performance power electronics for unique applications. As a member of our small team, you will be willing to work in different areas of expertise as project needs dictate and enlarge your skillset to meet project needs. Projects may also include work on RF systems, industrial controls, battery storage systems, and electrical generation. Position will include resources for training to add skills where necessary. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a pragmatic approach, who will work independently and incrementally towards ambitious goals via application of basic engineering principles.
Desired Skills and experience
- High voltage, high current switching with SiC MOSFETs.
- Experience with design of SiC MOSFETs in series and parallel
- Knowledge of power converter types and topologies, including AC-DC, DC-DC, push-pull, bridge, isolated, non-isolated, resonant, etc.
- Achieving high power through modular power converter designs
- Measurement of power electronics performance metrics including voltage, current, thermal, temperature sensitive electrical properties (TSEP), and parasitics
- Designing schematics and PCB layouts of power electronics for performance traits including low inductance, signal synchronization, high reliability & low EMI
- Transformer/magnetics design and assembly
- Control and feedback of power electronics
- Circuit simulation using SPICE
- Thermal and electromagnetic modeling/simulation
- Taking designs from concept to prototype and production
- Hand soldering, Electronics troubleshooting, EE shop practices
- Electronics for fast, precise, and low jitter timing and control
- High voltage safety
Bonus Skills:
- PLC programming, other programming skills
- Industrial controls experience
- Experience with rapid prototype procurement
Compensation will include equity and be awarded by experience.
