Fellowship Overview:
The Research Internship at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA) offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in museum-based research. This internship is designed for undergraduate students and recent graduates interested in the study of 20th and 21st-century Latin American and Latinx art. The ICAA is home to the "Documents of Latin American and Latino Art" project, a leading digital repository for primary source and critical materials in these fields.
As an ICAA research intern, you will engage in the following activities:
- Conduct research in Museum and other local archives and library special collections to support the "Documents of Latin American and Latino Art" project.
- Process, organize, and prepare primary source materials (e.g., correspondence, manifestos) and critical secondary sources (e.g. exhibition reviews, pamphlets, and journal articles) for inclusion in the digital repository.
- Assist with research and planning for exhibitions developed by the Latin American art department, including the production of scholarly catalogues.
- Develop advanced research skills, gain familiarity with digital archive systems, and build an understanding of key Latin American and Latinx art movements and figures.
This role provides an immersive and educational experience, fostering growth in research techniques, digital content management, and interdisciplinary museum studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct archival and library research.
- Process documents for the ICAA’s digital repository.
- Support research and development for exhibitions and catalogues.
- Collaborate with ICAA staff on key projects.
Education and Eligibility:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate program
- Interest in Latin American and Latinx art history or related fields.
- Strong research and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with digital tools and platforms is a plus but not required.
Anticipated Schedule:
The fellowship will comprise 350 hours of work (35 hours per week for 10 weeks), running from June 2 to August 8, 2025. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with an hour-long lunch).
Fellowship Stipend:
$15/Hour ($5250)
