The MFAH is currently seeking dependable protection professional with demonstrated leadership skills and a strong sense of integrity. The Security Supervisor plays the critical role of leading a team of Gallery Attendants and/or Security Access Control Officers to maintain order, reduce injury, assist visitors, and reduce property loss at the Museum.

Job Summary:

The Security Supervisor reports directly to the Deputy or Assistant Head of Security – Operations (DHSO/AHSO) and is responsible for providing day-to-day operational leadership to a team of security officers.  While administrative leadership responsibilities involve a consistent team, operationally this role will be required to provide leadership to members of other teams across different shifts and buildings. 

 A major part of the Security Supervisor’s role will involve his/her ability to communicate with Security Officers, Security Management, other Museum staff, and the public.  This role is responsible for day-to-day interactions to administer programs in the areas of training and development, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and policy enforcement.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct leadership to team of 12-20 Security Officers
  • Conducts roll call, takes attendance and makes daily post assignments
  • Counsel security officers, both verbally and in writing, on their job performance
  • Teams with the DHSO/AHSO to complete performance evaluations
  • Completes written reports on security and safety-related incidents
  • Conducts individual and group training sessions on security related topics
  • Conducts security briefings and orientations for new employees
  • Implements museum and security department’s policies and procedures fairly and consistently
  • Pass-down shift notes and relevant information to incoming relief supervisor(s) and officers to ensure communication of necessary information

General Responsibilities:

  • Ensures personal safety for staff and visitors
  • Responds to emergency situations when necessary
  • Interacts with visitors to give directions, provide information and enforce museum rules
  • Immediately reports deficiencies in their area (i.e., safety, damage, leaks, etc.) to their Security Supervisor
  • Ensures caterers, vendors, contractors, and other like personnel follow established procedures and takes corrective action when appropriate
  • Conducts opening and closing procedures while ensuring the museum and all other properties remain secure
  • Will serve as a member of the museum emergency response team.
  • Will assist in medical emergencies involving visitors or staff, including but not limited to
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Other Expectations:

  • May be assigned to a day, night, or early morning shift.
  • May be assigned to work weekends on a regular basis.
  • May be assigned to work overtime hours
  • May be designated as “essential personnel” and required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather or other emergency situations.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Understanding of and ability to apply a positive customer service mindset
  • Ability to lead a team through positive example and reinforcement.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate in general business software
  • Maintains a friendly and courteous attitude
  • Must have good writing skills in order to document incidents and events clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work various shifts and flexibility to cover relieving shift when needed or help cover special events going past shifts schedule.
  • Must have reliable transportation to ensure punctuality
  • Must be polite and tactful with dealing with co-workers and public.
  • Must be alert and able to respond quickly in an emergency.
  • Must be presentable at all times through proper grooming and personal hygiene.
  • Must have accurate vision (22/20 or 20/40 with corrective lens acceptable).
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods at a time.
  • Must be able to walk and climb stairs
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised or closely with supervisors for extended periods at a time.
  • Sound decision-making abilities
  • Experience in conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation
  • Must be able to complete Museum-provided First-Aid/CPR/AED certification training within first 3-months of employment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Qualifications also include a clear criminal background report, must be 18 years of age or older and have the ability to perform all tasks required of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. 
  • Must have in good standing or be qualified to obtain - level 2 Non-Commissioned Security Guard license with Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Security Officers must pass a national criminal background check in order to maintain non-commission status through the Texas Commission on Private Security.
  • Previous security and leadership experience preferred
  • Previous customer service experience highly desired.
  • All applicants are required to have a valid state issued ID or driver license in order to complete the application process.
  • Bilingual is a plus!

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be in good general health.  Mobile and agile.
  • Duties require standing at posts for long periods of time and/or walking distances and climbing stairs throughout the work shift.
  • Working conditions may be indoors or outside, depending on assignment.  When working outside, inclement weather may also be a working condition.
  • Other duties may require lifting heavy objects (fire extinguisher or a small child); opening heavy doors and hatches; climbing stairs, ladders, and in the event of an emergency, may have to run or make quick physical response.
  • Must have good eyesight (adjusted) and hearing (adjusted).

The MFAH provides a generous schedule for time off under the following benefit categories:

  • Paid Time Off - Used for absences from work such as vacation, illness of short duration, and personal reasons. Hours are accrued biweekly, based on employment status, length of service, and hours worked
  • Reserve Time Off - Used for extended illnesses. Employees accrue up to 6 days per year, up to a maximum of 120 days
  • Holidays - Full-time employees receive ten paid holidays per year
  • Volunteer Time Off - The MFAH supports activities that enhance and serve the communities in which we live and work. Employees receive up to 40 hours of paid time off annually to give back and volunteer.
