About the Role
At MFGWorx, we are seeking a skilled Master Craftsman to join our team as a Tool & Die Repair / Maker. This role is responsible for ensuring the daily maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all dies on the plant floor.
Responsibilities:
- We require a highly skilled individual to be responsible for the repair, cleaning, and troubleshooting of dies.
- This includes working closely with the production department to resolve any tooling issues that may arise.
- The ideal candidate will have the ability to study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
- In addition, they will verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- We need someone who can set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
- The selected candidate will file, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to ensure proper fit together.
- They will also conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; making adjustments as necessary.
- A critical aspect of this role is inspecting finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
- The successful candidate will be required to smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.
- Initiating and conducting preventative maintenance on all dies is also an essential part of this role.
- The candidate must report unsafe conditions and wear required PPE at all times.
- Furthermore, they must follow all safety rules and policies as set forth by OSHA guidelines.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- We require certification, journeyman card, apprenticeship completion, or minimum 3-4 years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- Able to use hand tools, gauges, dials, and/or other indicators to ensure machines are working properly.
- Experience with mills, lathes, die grinder, surface grinder, and other tool and die equipment is preferred.
- Familiarity with tool hardening and annealing, automated tooling, and repairing hardened steel dies is also preferred.
- Experience with tool and stone polishing for smooth surface and high tonnage press operation.
- Mig and tig welding experience is also preferred.
