About the Job
Tool & Die Repair/Maker is a crucial role responsible for maintaining and repairing all dies on the plant floor. The ideal candidate will ensure that dies are always in proper working condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Repair, clean, and troubleshoot dies to optimal performance
- Collaborate with the production department to resolve tooling issues
- Analyze blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan die fabrication sequences
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators
- Operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and grinders to precision-cut parts
- File, grind, shim, and adjust parts for seamless fitment
- Conduct test runs to ensure parts meet specifications; make adjustments as needed
- Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects
- Polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders
- Initiate and conduct preventative maintenance on all dies
- Report unsafe conditions and adhere to OSHA guidelines
Requirements:
- Certification, journeyman card, apprenticeship completion, or 3-4 years of relevant work experience (or equivalent combination)
- Proficiency in using hand tools, gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure machine functionality
- Experience with mills, lathes, die grinder, surface grinder, and other tool and die equipment is preferred
- Familiarity with tool hardening and annealing, automated tooling, and repairing hardened steel dies is preferred
- Experience with tool and stone polishing for smooth surface and high-tonnage press operation
- MIG and TIG welding experience is preferred
