MGC Contractors, Inc. is a 100% Employee Owned Corporation. We specialize in all forms of water and wastewater general contracting including Job Order Contracting, Construction Manager at Risk, Design-Bid-Build, and Design-Build throughout Arizona, Texas, Utah, and New Mexico.

We are currently looking for and experience Lead Estimator to join our Arizona Office.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Participation in all aspects of the bid/estimating process, including reviewing plans and specs, soliciting and negotiating prices.
  • Own the entirety of preparing bid proposals from cradle to grave.
  • Lead a team of estimating professionals, providing support, direction, and training.
  • Identify bid qualifications and review all instructions to bidders and any other requirements to ensure the successful delivery of proposals that meet or exceed all owner's requirements.
  • Ensure bid bonds are ordered, and insurance requirements are met through the proper internal channels.
  • Lead and participate in estimate reviews with executive leadership and operations team.
  • Prepare cost estimates utilizing industry knowledge and historical cost data.
  • Lead the charge in developing alternative delivery proposals such as Guaranteed Maximum Price, Job Order Contracting, and Design-Build.
  • Execute accurate quantity takeoff's utilizing digital estimating software.
  • Manage comparisons between self-perform estimates and subcontractor quotes.
  • Analyze Subcontractor and Vendor quotes for responsiveness to the estimate and project requirements.
  • Develop detailed project budgets on successfully bid projects.
  • Partner in collecting and maintaining a historical cost database on past & active projects to be used in bidding on new work.
  • Perform value engineering and take part in constructability reviews during the preconstruction phases of each applicable project.
  • Lead the pricing strategy for general expenses & project-specific requirements.
  • Review and analyze contract documents, plans, and specifications for various project types, including lump-sum, unit price, CM@R, JOC, Design-Build, Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM), etc.
  • Conduct risk and opportunity analysis to integrate into project proposals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position operates in a professional office environment that routinely uses standard office equipment requiring the ability to communicate in person and over the telephone with other employees, the ability to interpret printed materials and a computer screen, the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, the ability to lift and carry supplies and files weighing up to 10 pounds and to move about the inside of the office to access supplies, office machinery, etc.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime may be required as job duties demand. Occasional Travel may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Proven experience in leading estimating efforts and/or pursuits in the water/wastewater construction markets.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods for self-performed work including, but not limited to, structural concrete, process piping systems, water/wastewater process treatment equipment, buried wet utilities, earthworks and structure excavation/backfill and chemical treatment systems, etc.
  • Proven understanding of bid preparation, trade procurement, bid leveling, and bid closeout.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple pursuits at once.
  • Hands-on team player who supports staff.
  • Mentoring approach with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong relationships in the subcontracting community and willingness to build upon existing relationships, while building new relationships.
  • Proficient use of digital estimating software such as InEight Estimate (Hard Dollar), Planswift, Smartbid, etc.
  • Strong background in excel.
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, organization, verbal and written communication skills, and excellent leadership skills.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with team members and supervisors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related Major preferred.
  • At least 5 years of related experience required.
