We are currently seeking a Benefits Assistant to join our team in our Columbia office. Ideal candidates will have 1-3 years of HR experience and be based near Columbia, SC to train in the office for the first few weeks. This position has flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement after the initial training period. A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and qualifying life event changes.
- Respond to employee and vendor inquiries regarding benefit plans, electronic ID cards, enrollments, claims, and status changes, escalating issues as needed.
- Assist with benefit related reporting, audits and surveys.
- Distribute employee benefit notices.
- Assist with the annual open enrollment process, including evaluating benefit changes, preparing enrollment documents, and ensuring accurate setup in HRIS and MGConnect.
- Perform quality checks on benefits-related data and carrier enrollments to ensure accuracy, including reviewing weekly file feed statuses.
- Process all 401k related distributions, loans, rollovers, etc.
- Assist employees with 401k related enrollment and plan questions
- Maintain accurate records of employee requests, resolutions, and compliance documents.
- Work with third-party vendors to deliver optimal service and resolve issues promptly.
- Audit and track benefit related invoices, ensuring they are accurate and provided to Accounting in a timely manner for payment.
- Ensure all benefits communications are up to date and posted to the appropriate places.
- Work with marketing team on monthly HR & Benefits newsletters, providing content, proofreading and communicating important information to the employees.
- Address COBRA-related issues and employee inquiries, coordinating with carriers as needed.

- Some knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws

- Must be able to read and write in English and use arithmetic skills accurately to complete required daily projects
- Typing and reading on a computer
- Communicates in person, by telephone and email
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Must be able to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously
- Must also have ability to work in a high-pressure environment
