The Therapist will provide direct client services consisting of individual, group and/or family therapy. The Therapist may also provide school and/or home based services including crisis intervention. Client assessment, treatment and aftercare planning are included in all clinical positions. All Behavioral Health (BH) staff will participate with the BH team, attending team meetings, client staffing’s, case reviews, staff development and policy and procedure development. Therapists will use independent judgment in carrying out daily job responsibilities. If Therapist is behavioral health licensed, they may supervise interns/externs or non-licensed BH staff. MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 14 sites in Tucson and Pima County. The following qualifications are required:
- Master’s degree in Social Services or related field
- Licensed as an independent practitioner with AZ Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or LISAC ) or as a Psychologist by the AZ Board of Psychologist Examiners (unless hired as Provisional Therapist)
- Experience in Behavioral Health with at-risk youth or adults
- Experience conducting individual, group, or family therapy or special focus groups
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- First Aid certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
- Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MHC)
- Experience with the State Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) system, AHCCCS Complete Care (ACC) health plans, and community resources
This position has the following supervisory responsibility:
- May occasionally provide direction, training, or guidance to others.
- Knowledge of State, RBHA, and ACC requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of current versions of DSM and ICD.

- Conducts intakes with new clients, completing all paperwork in a timely and thorough manner.
- Provides direct client services consisting of therapeutic services to individuals, groups, and/or family members, ensuring that contact and documentation are maintained according to guidelines.
- Provides office, school and home-based services as necessary or requested.
- Attends to client crises as requested, including assessing crisis, ensuring incidents are documented, and appropriate action is taken.
- Participates in Adult Recovery Team (ART) meetings as requested or appropriate.
- Completes Progress Notes on all client contacts.
- Completes Monthly Progress Reports on all appropriate clients, ensuring these reports are sent to the appropriate persons and agencies.
- Works effectively with all clients and families, providing quality and timely assessments, service planning, service reviews, discharge planning, and aftercare planning within a recovery model of care.
- Provides all clients with appropriate referrals to other community agencies as needed or requested.
- Maintains an appropriate number of direct service hours and ensures the Intake Team has current information regarding availability.
- Provides supervision to non-licensed Behavioral Health staff, interns, or externs as appropriate and documents all supervision provided.
- Acts as a willing and efficient liaison between MHC Behavioral Health Services and other behavioral health agency staff, school district employees, RBHA/ACC staff, and court employees.
- Acts as a productive member of the Behavioral Health team by participating in departmental meetings, client staffings, case reviews, staff development, and policy and procedure development.
- Assumes responsibility for understanding guidelines and procedures for all department contracts and requests clarification if necessary.
- Observes applicable state and federal laws, assumes responsibility for knowledge of laws, and requests clarification if necessary.
- Maintains general behavioral health and education standards and keeps abreast of behavioral health and educational trends by reading and attending in-services and workshops as indicated in staff development plan.
- Abides by APA guidelines and MHC policies for clinical/ethical practices; follows professional and ethical practices when working with clients, client records, families, and community personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and family information.
- Uses appropriate management techniques when dealing with inappropriate or “acting out” behavior.
- Uses appropriate incident reporting procedures when documenting unsafe or problematic incidents involving patients, clients, and staff.
- Completes internal and external Incident Reports accurately and follows procedures completely, ensuring the UM/MM office is actively involved.
- Interacts effectively with community members and other agency personnel to promote trust, productivity, and growth.
- Maintains a positive attitude towards job responsibilities, working collaboratively with all MHC staff members to create a productive working team.
- Utilizes appropriate channels for reporting, discussing, and solving problems or concerns.
