As a Safety Management Systems (SMS) Coordinator, here is what you’ll be doing at the core, day to day.
The SMS Coordinator will provide continued oversight and maintenance of the FAA Voluntary Safety Management System for both WVAC and TAC. Key responsibilities include revising applicable manuals to align with current SMS guidelines, conducting audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and recording and generating monthly and annual reports to track SMS performance. The role also involves fostering a proactive safety culture by promoting adherence to regulatory standards and encouraging a positive safety environment within the organization.
- Provide continued oversight of the FAA Voluntary SMS for both WVAC and TAC, ensuring all processes align with SMS guidelines.
- Revise applicable manuals, conduct audits, and record findings to maintain SMS compliance.
- Generate monthly and annual reports on SMS performance and compliance.
- Perform reviews of processes and procedures to ensure ongoing SMS compliance.
- Conduct technical reviews of SMS guidance to ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
- Participate as a trainer for SMS compliance and working groups to enhance organizational knowledge.
- Travel within the Service Center network may be required for internal SMS work.
- Review SMS requirements, interpret their intent, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Interface with MHIRJ customers' SMS programs to align overlapping procedures.
Here’s what is required to succeed as a Safety Management Systems (SMS) Coordinator.
- Minimum of 5 years of aviation experience, with 3 years preferred in Quality Control/Quality Assurance.
- Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other business areas, and governmental agencies.
- Must be able to discuss SMS specifics with customers and the FAA, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have planning and organizational skills to coordinate workload across multiple assignments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Must demonstrate proficiency with Federal Aviation Regulations Part 145, 121, and SMS Guidance.
- Formal SMS training courses and certifications (preferred)
