About Mi Escuela Montessori: Mi Escuela Montessori is a dual language (Spanish/English) immersion Montessori public school dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our mission is to provide a holistic education that respects each child's individuality and promotes bilingualism and multicultural understanding. The school serves students from toddler through 8th grade. This is an exciting opportunity, as the school is currently building a new facility, applying for AMS accreditation and will be expanding to 700 students within the next 5 years.
Job Summary: Mi Escuela Montessori is seeking a visionary, high energy Principal committed to dual language immersion Montessori education as a vehicle for social justice to oversee a team of talented teachers, support students and families, and establish Montessori as an exemplary public education model. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Montessori education, be bilingual in Spanish and English, and possess excellent leadership and communication skills. The Principal reports to the Mi Escuela Montessori Executive Director and supervises the school’s instructional staff.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Provide vision and direction for the school, aligning with the Montessori philosophy and charter school mission.
- Implement and maintain effective school policies and procedures.
- Supervise and evaluate teachers and staff, ensuring high-quality instruction and a positive learning environment.
- Manage the school budget and resources effectively.
- Maintain a safe and healthy school environment.
Academic Leadership:
- Support system-wide fidelity to the Montessori Model, including ensuring each classroom has a complete set of Montessori materials.
- Establish and maintain standards for ongoing maintenance of high-quality learning environments.
- Coordinate reading and math programs.
- Create a year-long, coherent professional learning plan to include full-day trainings, staff meetings, and guide meetings.
- Provide Instructional Team Support & Evaluation, including weekly monitoring of record keeping and lesson planning.
- Oversee instructional coaching and professional development.
- Work in collaboration with the Assistant Principal to develop, implement, and monitor student behavior plans and Response to Intervention plans, and provide professional leadership and coaching.
- Develop, implement, and monitor support for English Language Learners.
- Direct Special Education and 504 Plan activities.
- Coordinate nursing services and Physical Education.
- Assessment planning and oversight.
- Compile state and federal data reports.
Curriculum and Instruction:
- Ensure the implementation of a rigorous and engaging Montessori curriculum.
- Monitor student progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Promote professional development for teachers, focusing on Montessori best practices.
Staff and Community Relations:
- Recruit, hire, and retain a highly effective staff.
- Build strong relationships with families, community members, and the charter school board.
- Act as a liaison between the school and the community, promoting positive public relations.
- Create a safe and secure school environment.
- Be accessible and communicate effectively with all constituencies.
- Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate an extensive Parent Education program.
- Partner and coordinate with the Parent-Teacher Organization.
- Maintain ongoing parent communication and maintain the family handbook.
Personnel:
- Recruit, support, and retain a highly effective faculty and staff.
- Develop a strategic recruiting plan and procedures that include strategies for seeking qualified candidate.
- Lead faculty members in upholding high standards of professional behavior.
- Evaluate teaching through classroom visits and regular and consistent feedback with teachers.
- Ensure that useful support and assistance are available to each teacher to improve the quality of teaching and actively support the professional development of faculty and staff.
- Create and implement plans for regular performance evaluation of all staff members.
Partnership with the Board of Trustees & School Leadership:
- Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop short and long-term goals school-wide; monitor outcomes to ensure the school is meeting its performance goals.
- Work strategically with the Executive Director, leadership team, and the Board of Trustees to ensure the development and implementation of appropriate policies for effectively managing the school.
- Partner with school leadership and the Board to refine the school’s mission, vision, and strategic planning.
- Clearly articulate the school’s mission to all constituencies.
- Regularly inform the Board of Trustees regarding school performance, data, and operational needs.
Charter School Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to all charter school laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and reports as required by the charter school authority.
- Participate in the charter school renewal process.
Other Duties:
- Counsel and discipline students as needed.
- Supervise the upkeep and maintenance of the school building and equipment.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Master’s degree in educational leadership, educational supervision, Montessori Education Dual Language Education or a related field.
- Valid and active FLDOE Certification in Administration or the ability to become certified; ESL certification and bilingual preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in public education, including secondary or elementary school instruction.
- Montessori certification in elementary education and/or the ability and desire to start training program within 1 year.
- Proficiency in technology and software used in school administration.
- Knowledge in language acquisition and dual language programming models.
- Understanding of standards-based curriculum required in Florida
- Experience in urban administration, Montessori education and/or bilingual education preferred.
- Satisfactory work record & criminal/child abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, and 151).
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations if needed.
