Employment Type: Part time Shift: Day Shift Description: Specialty pharmacists need a deep understanding of complex medications, including their mechanisms of action, potential interactions, and appropriate dosing regimens. They provide comprehensive medication counseling to patients and caregivers, ensuring they understand how to take their medications correctly and manage potential side effects. They may be involved in managing patients with chronic conditions, providing clinical support for injectable therapies, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Specialty pharmacists must be able to identify and resolve complex medication-related problems, using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They must be knowledgeable about relevant regulations and guidelines related to specialty pharmaceuticals The Specialty Pharmacist prepares and dispenses medications, monitors patient medication therapies, and provided patient education. This pharmacist must work independently while following department policies and procedures. Education Minimum Five year bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy. Preferred Advanced training in at least one specialty clinical area Licensure Minimum Current registered pharmacist license and controlled substance license issued by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification may be required (at discretion of manager). Experience Related Experience Minimum N/A Preferred One year of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy Other Knowledge Minimum Knowledge of drug regimen review, pharmacy software for order entry, allergy screening, drug interactions, and other related topics. Ability to communicate effectively. Preferred Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge of Word, Excel and other computer applications Computer Competency Minimum Familiarity with standard desktop and windows-based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.
