Employment Type: Full time Shift: Description: Certified Surgical Technologist Department: Surgical Services - Main Location: Trinity Health Chelsea Status: Full-time, 36 hours/week Rotating weekends and on-call Position Purpose: Surgical Technologists are responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the field of Operating Room technology to Child and Adolescents and Adults and Geriatrics. Required Qualifications: Education Completion of an associate degree in Surgical Technology and active certification as a Surgical Tech OR two (2) years of surgical technologist experience and active certification as a surgical technologist. Certification Certification as a Surgical Technologist required, must be obtained within 6 months of hire if the candidate has recently completed a Surgical Technologist program. Experience No experience required if actively Certified as a Surgical Technologist, if not Certified must be able to provide proof of eligible to complete Certification exam and obtain within 6 months of hire. Prepares for scheduled operative procedure by arranging sterile set up of instrument table with drapes, instruments and sutures required for procedure according to surgeon preference and maintains sterile field throughout the case. Passes instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assists during procedures, holds retraction devices, anticipates and responds to surgeon needs during course of surgery. Assists RN with circulating duties such as opening supplies, assisting with positioning, obtaining equipment and supplies, bagging sponges, and preparing the operative site. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery; at the beginning of the case, before closing, final counts and when relieved at the end of the shift prior to end of case.
