Position Details
The Director will be a visionary leader, an expert in college admissions, and an advocate for students as they navigate the complexities of the college application process. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic professional to build on MCDS’s tradition of excellence while adapting to the evolving landscape of higher education.
Reporting to the Director of Upper School, the Director of College & Academic Counseling will oversee the continued development of a comprehensive 9th- 12th-grade C&AC curriculum and will engage deeply with students, families, faculty, and college admissions professionals. The Director will be an integral member of the Upper School leadership team, collaborating with faculty, student support staff, and the school community to ensure a holistic and personalized approach to college planning.

- A strategic thinker & storyteller: Able to articulate the unique value of an MCDS education to colleges and universities while inspiring confidence and clarity in families navigating the admissions process.
- An experienced college admission counseling professional: With at least 5 years of experience in college admissions and/or independent school college counseling.
- A relationship builder: Skilled at forging strong connections with students, families, faculty, and college representatives.
- A collaborative leader: Able to empower and mentor a team of college counselors while working across departments to support student success.
- A knowledgeable expert: Deeply familiar with current trends in college admissions, financial aid, athletic recruitment, and standardized testing.
- An effective communicator: Possessing excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills to engage a variety of audiences.
- Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion: Dedicated to equitable college counseling practices that support all students in their unique journeys.
- A lifelong learner: Actively engaged in professional networks, conferences, and ongoing development in the field of college counseling.
- Masters Degree required.
- 5 years of leadership experience in college admissions and/or independent school counseling.
- Strong understanding of curriculum and holistic student development in an independent school setting.
- Experience with college counseling software (e.g., MaiaLearning, Naviance, Scoir).
