Description

Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of 6th-8th Grade Math Teacher beginning August 2025.  This exciting opportunity will require a depth of mathematical knowledge, understanding of subject content, and a strong background in educational pedagogy. Miami Country Day School has a mathematics program centered on creative, integrated, non-scripted approaches to curriculum design and teaching. Although a Math Teacher, this person must embrace STEM education and find ways to integrate an interdisciplinary curriculum between STEM and other domains. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of research-based learning.

JOB SUMMARY:

 

To work with a collaborative team designing, organizing and implementing curriculum using the Understanding By Design framework, that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of Middle School Math, being an academic advisor to a group of 10-13 middle school students, and actively participanting in the Mathematics, Science, and Technology Department.  

 

Essential Functions and Tasks:

 

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning using the UbD teaching framework.
  • Advise a group of 10-13 middle students on their academic and social progress and growth.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Include a variety of of teaching methodologies including multiple modalities of instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing community norms that support rules and procedures.
  • Responsibilities inherent in teaching middle aged children using developmentally appropriate curriculum and fostering positive social skills and community core values.
  • Work with the Grade Level Team to discuss and plan activities and student progress.
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Perform supervisory duties as assigned.
  • Desire to engage in continual professional growth and to be a member of a dynamic community of learners.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 

  • BA or BS in Math, Math Education, and/or FL secondary state certification.
  • Completed or in-progress master’s degree in Math, or education is preferred but applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Teaching experience in Independent Schools, preferably in a middle school, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
  • Knowledge and practice of Understanding by Design teaching framework is preferred.
  • A lifelong learner willing to balance past experience with the demands of a new environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery, accuracy and end-user satisfaction is expected.
  • A willingness to understand and support the school’s mission and vision, as well as recognize impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the Middle School.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all stakeholders.
  • Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • May work long hours for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
  • Works in varied and changing weather conditions, including extreme heat.
