ABOUT MCDS:
Miami Country Day School has an opening for 25-26 for an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of Upper School Math Teacher. This exciting opportunity will require a depth of mathematical knowledge, understanding of subject content, and a strong background in educational pedagogy. It will also afford the teacher collaborative design experience and opportunities for professional growth as part of the Mathematics, Science, and Technology Department. Miami Country Day School has a mathematics program centered on creative, integrated, non-scripted approaches to curriculum design and teaching.
JOB SUMMARY:
To work with a collaborative team designing, organizing and implementing curriculum using the Understanding By Design framework, that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of Upper School Math, being an academic advisor to a group of 10-14 upper school students, and being an active participant in the Mathematics, Science, and Technology Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
- Teach 5 sections of Upper School Math, including Precalculus and Integrated Math 3 (Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Geometry).
- Plans, prepares and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
- Observes and evaluates student performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
- Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Communicates student progress and needs regularly to students, colleagues and parents.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- BA or BS in Secondary Math Education or Math, and/or FL Math secondary state certification.
- Completed or in-progress masters degree in math or education is preferred but applicants with successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
- Teaching experience, preferably in an Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended, independent School preferred.
- A lifelong learner willing to balance past experience with the demands of a new environment.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery, accuracy and end-user satisfaction is expected.
- A willingness to understand and support the schools mission and vision, as well as recognize impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the Upper School.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all stakeholders.
- Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- May work long hours for extended periods of time.
