What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Miami County?
Specialized work involving janitorial and related tasks to assist in the care of the buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position will perform all needed janitorial and related tasks to ensure the building and grounds are clean, safe, and in an acceptable working condition. Works cooperatively and maintains a pleasant attitude with staff, individuals, family members, providers, and other community contacts. Maintains confidentiality of all information.
JOB DUTIES
- Under general guidance from the Custodial and Grounds Manager, maintains overall safety and cleanliness within and outside of the building by performing regular building services including, but not limited to, general custodial cleaning, trash, special projects related to tile floors and carpet cleaning, restroom cleaning, spills, etc.
- Uses cleaning tools and solutions to clean restroom toilets and tile floors, scrubs grout, performs preventative maintenance checks and routine basic repairs of electrical, plumbing, and building mechanical systems, records services performed, notifies supervisor of maintenance problems, equipment or system malfunctions needing repairs.
- Monitors building security and safety by performing tasks, such as locking doors after business hours and ensuring the building is free of hazards.
- Demonstrates regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.

MINIMUM CLASS QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience performing janitorial tasks
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and have reliable transportation
- Satisfactory pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen
- Experience using electronic work order system using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) preferred
- Must complete Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Certification on first day of employment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, drive, use hands to finger, handle, grab, restrain, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and must frequently lift and/or carry up to fifty (50) pounds on a frequent basis.
The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of portable wood and metal ladders, emergency plans and fire prevention plans, personal protective equipment including but not limited to eye, hand and face protection, portable fire extinguishers, handling materials and supplies (including mechanical handling equipment, the manner in which things are stored, and housekeeping), air contaminants, human waste, bloody and other bodily fluids, chemicals, noisy operations, powered industrial truck (tow motor or pallet jack), hand and portable power tools, flammable and combustible liquids, medical and first aid, firearms, potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons, jail areas and inmates, crowds including night, weekend and holiday events, hazardous driving conditions, hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions.
