What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Moving and Event Setup Assistant position at Miami Dade College?
The Moving and Event Setup Assistant is responsible for moving equipment, furniture, boxes, and miscellaneous articles of various types throughout the Campus and sets-up various internal and/or external events held on the Campus.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Moves and relocates office furniture, surveyed equipment, computers, mailroom deliveries, boxes, and green lawn furniture
- Sets up and prepares tables, chairs, stages, and podiums for events on campus
- Places and exchanges departmental recycling bins, removes shredded paper bags and outside trashcans
- Participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as assigned
- Fuels, provides minor maintenance, and washes vehicles as assigned
- Keeps track of department issued boxes, vehicle use, equipment, and furniture tables, chairs, stages, and podiums used for events
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of two (2) years of High School and one (1) month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified as a Forklift Operator/Driver and Heavy Machine Equipment Operator, if operating specified equipment within given department
- Possess a valid Florida Driver License class CDL A,B, or C with a “P” endorsement, if department requires driving a 15 or greater Passenger Van
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Knowledge of campus layouts and locations (buildings, classrooms, offices, campus roads, and parking lots)
- Knowledge of traffic and other regulation governing the use of equipment
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment
- Skill and ability to understand basic communication skills in English
- Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel to all campuses and assigned destinations
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours as needed per area assignment
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
- Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
Essential Position
- This function/position has been designated as essential. This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
