The Nurse Manager is responsible for providing overall leadership, direction, strategic planning, staffing, and coordination for the assigned clinical areas within the Division of Surgical Services. These activities are performed in concert with the organization’s mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives. This position reports to the Director of Surgical Services and works collaboratively with other members of the Surgical Services management team, nursing administration, anesthesia providers, surgeons, hospital administration, and PHP-system administration. This position is responsible for establishing the systems and structures to support the seamless delivery of quality patient care and to increase employee, patient, and physician satisfaction. The Nurse Manager is accountable for formulating and administering policies, plans, budgets, and programs areas of responsibility. This position is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of the Surgical Activities/Operations of the Peri-Anesthesia Areas within Surgical Services.
Dimension/Scope
The position is responsible for Admission & Discharge, PAT, SWL, Preop, & PACU. These areas perform in excess of 19,000 cases annually. PAT operates 7am -5pm Mon through Fri. Admission & Discharge operates 5am to 9pm Mon. through Sat. Preop and & PACU are open 24 hours 7 days a week. The position has 150 direct reports and 100 FTEs and works directly with over 300 different specialty physicians. The area is responsible for 43 million in annual revenue and manages 6 million in expense. Position has direct responsibility to a team that manages Surgical Care Improvement Program. A major focus of this position is ensuring patients are prepared for surgery, maintaining an efficient flow of patients into and out of the Operating room, while increasing overall efficiency of Peri-Anesthesia. Maintain the replacement plan for all specialty equipment related to areas of responsibility. Individual will serve on committees and other leadership roles as defined by the Director of Surgical Services.
An applicant for this position must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the State of Ohio. The applicant must have a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or a health related program of studies. Masters Preferred. CPR certified. Peri-Anesthesia Experience Required. A minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience is preferred. Other demonstrated skills necessary for this position include expertise in: communication across disciplines, change management, managing group dynamics, and performance improvement process. The applicant must also be skilled in the 8 Core Leadership Competencies defined as: Dealing with Ambiguity, Conflict Management, Customer Focus, Developing Direct Reports, Hiring and Staffing, Organizational Agility, Peer Relationships, and Self-Development.
