The Site HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with other members of the HR team supporting the overall mission of the organization. The HR Generalist is a multi-incumbent position, with each HR Generalist assigned to a specific plant. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas for their assigned plant: onboarding, benefits administration assistance; employment law compliance; employee relations; organizational training; performance management; standard operating procedure and policy implementation; and assistance with worker injury claims management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, Business or related field
- A minimum or 35 years human resources experience in steel industry, manufacturing, or related field,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
- Knowledge of HRIS and ERP systems, strongly preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish/English (read, write, and speak), preferred
- Business or related field preferred with a minimum of 2 years human resources’ experience in steel industry, manufacturing or related field.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities assigned will be performed by each HR Generalist at their assigned plant:
1. Administers various human resource programs and procedures; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; and assists drafting revisions to the employee handbook and the personnel policies and procedures manual
2. Supports recruitment process by assisting with the coordination of job postings, reviewing resumes, performing background and pre-placement testing, and conducting weekly onboarding; and, maintains listing of approved positions along with assigned salary grade levels
3. Addresses performance management issues, including but not limited to, employee relations coaching, evaluations, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing. This includes managing and tracking employee disciplinary actions
4. Provides coaching and conflict resolution to managers and employees; and assists HR Management with investigating complaints, answering and resolving grievances, and, hearing concerns.
5. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition (service awards), birthday programs, and employee appreciation programs (i.e. Fun Friday); and, coordinates site-specific holiday events and other events to enhance the team culture
6. Creates and facilitates workforce training, including but not limited to: refreshers, needs-specific training, and supervisor/manager training
7. Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations; and, develops and maintains affirmative action program and collect data required for annual EEO-1 reporting
8. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems; assists in evaluation of reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals; and, maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports
9. Maintains and processes all unemployment notices of entitlement and potential charges in a timely manner. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.
10. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars
11. Performs other duties as assigned

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but have indirect responsibility, and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones. This position may have to walk-through the fabrication plant to meeting with employees, tour the facility, and/or provide training and development to employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Minimal physical exertion. While performing the duties of this job, this position is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities are required by this job, which include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, overtime exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
In office position requiring you to travel to assigned Plant daily. Occasional travel to the Corporate Office may be required for staff meetings and/or training and development.
CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Employee is expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor. In addition, employee is expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities. Employee must attend mandatory education programs. Goal: Maintain SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification in good standing, or ability to obtain certification within 36 months of hire date for incumbents without the certification.
