What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community-based aide position at Micah Ecumenical Ministries?
Assists in providing independent living skills instruction, support, and/or care to unhoused adults with medical and mental health needs in a community-housing program. The Housing Stabilization Navigator supervises this position. Work involves occasional exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions, such as the requirement to interact with guests who have unsanitary behaviors, poor hygiene, illnesses, and/or are potentially aggressive.
Responsibilities:
- Instruct neighbors in basic independent living skills, including mobility, hygiene and self-care, home maintenance and safety, nutrition and home economics, social behavior and communication, personal banking, and money management.
- Provide support during the week, nights, and weekends, as assigned.
- Supports self-administration of neighbor’s medications, including pill sorting, monitoring compliance, reporting, and picking up refills.
- Plans and leads neighbors in social and leisure activities.
- Supports neighbors in achieving activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and transferring/mobility, as needed by the guest. This includes necessary personal caregiving as prescribed by hospice, home health, or the guest’s physician.
- Maintains a familiarity with neighbor’s service plan, and provides peer-to-peer supportive communication. Refers problems to the appropriate Care Coordinator.
- Provides timely and accurate documentation of guest interactions, incidents, behaviors, telephone contacts, and other information through daily case notes using computer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Team Participation
- Participates in staff meetings and other group activities essential for the operation of an effective service.
- Participates in team discussions regarding neighbor progress and lack of progress, with possible solutions to ensure the best support for the neighbor’s success.
- Promotes good community relations and utilizes community services and resources.
- Attends scheduled training programs for professional development that include, at a minimum, training required by Micah and by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
- Assumes on-call responsibility as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Some knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of instruction and behavior management practices for persons with mental illness and in emotional crisis; some knowledge of effective supportive counseling practices and techniques. Good knowledge of common housekeeping and personal care practices. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with neighbors, their families, other staff, and significant others. Good physical condition, including the ability to physically assist participants with limited mobility; ability to function calmly in stressful situations; ability to observe, assess, and record individual behaviors and functioning. Ability to follow directions, work independently, and respond to crises, both behavioral and medical.

Qualifications:
PCA or CNA certified and experience working in human services, or equivalent education and experience to produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be certified or be willing to obtain certification in First Aid/CPR, medication management and De-escalation.

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
