Job Description:

The Miccosukee Indian School is looking for a MS/ HS Science Teacher who will effectively teach grade-level standards so that all students are cognitively, socially, and emotionally prepared for the rigor of the following grade level. The science teacher upholds the standards of excellent teaching, content knowledge, Miccosukee Indian School Vision, and Science Department directives and meets and strive to exceed the expectations set forth herein for this position. Instruction will be delivered using highly engaging research-based strategies that motivate and inspire students to be inquisitive while developing a passion for learning. Great emphasis will be placed on ensuring the Miccosukee culture is seamlessly infused within lessons throughout the year. Students will have consistent and equitable access to technology usage to continue developing age-appropriate 21st-century skills. Data driven decisions will be made with the best interest of the student in mind.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 5 years of teaching experience
  • Florida Educator Certificate (Biology)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dual Certifications

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Create standard based lesson plans on a weekly basis that meets the criteria specified in the lesson plan check list form
  • Be prepared for all classes with materials and resources ready to use and organized
  • Use research-based strategies to maintain student engagement
  • Use various modes of instruction to present material to students
  • Integrate the Miccosukee culture and environment to make content relevant
  • Plan and prepare labs
  • Adhere to lab safety protocols and procedures
  • Inventory and maintain lab supplies and equipment
  • Foster a collaborative learning experience amongst students
  • Develop solid classroom routines and procedures to ensure effective classroom management
  • Develop a behavior management system that is implemented consistently and consists of rewards and consequences
  • Create classroom rules that are positive and set clear expectations for students
  • Consistently move around the classroom to assess student learning and monitor on-task behavior
  • Ask a variety of questions at different levels of rigor that align to the level of rigor of the standard
  • Regularly update gradebooks and meet the gradebook requirements detailed by the school
  • Present various types of activities for students
  • Encourage the use of technology
  • Use academic language
  • Provide students with specific and effective feedback
  • Use data to differentiate instruction
  • Display student work in classroom
  • Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment
  • Create and update 3 days' worth of emergency lesson plans
  • Provide tier 2-3 interventions as needed

Curriculum:

  • Use the identified core textbooks with fidelity
  • Select and utilize supplemental resources that are aligned to the standard/objective and the level of rigor
  • Create and monitor pacing guides using standards and core textbooks

Assessment:

  • Assign formative assessments from the core textbooks
  • Ensure formative assessments are aligned to the standard and objective
  • Assign formative assessments through the online platforms when possible
  • Utilize a variety of formative assessments to check for student learning and understanding
  • Analyze data from classroom assessments and use it to guide instruction
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and directives from the Assessment Coordinator when administering school-wide assessments
  • Regularly analyze assessment data to monitor student progress and make necessary referrals
  • Communicate data and student progress regularly with students and parents

Professional Development

  • Attend and actively participate in professional development provided by the school
  • Work collaboratively with the Instructional Coach to continue growing as an educator
  • Research webinars, conferences, and other opportunities for professional growth
  • Complete necessary requirements to maintain a valid teaching certificate
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share effective strategies
  • Request support from service providers when necessary

Professionalism/Ethics

  • Follow the schedule provided with fidelity
  • Communicate any concerns with scheduling to the appropriate person
  • Communicate with colleagues in a professional manner
  • Ensure that communication about students remain professional
  • Input student attendance by the specified time
  • Regularly read and respond to emails and Outlook calendar invitations
  • Use Grammarly on all work devices
  • Adhere to the confidentiality policies and protocols established by the tribe
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida, pursuant to State Board of Education Rules 6A- 10.081.
  • Support the school and students by attending school events and activities
  • Compliance with all policies, protocols, and procedures explained in any and all MIS handbooks, guides, and memos sent by the leadership team and administrators.
