What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Fitness Instructor position at Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida?
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Health and Fitness Instructor to join our dynamic team.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Health & Fitness Instructor must maintain liaison with all health programs and tribal departments, such as the Clinic and Human Services staff, Indian School, MFTC, etc.; as well as have a direct relationship with all age levels of the community.
The Health and Fitness Instructor performs these duties in order to provide comprehensive health education and physical fitness sessions (group & individual) to community members.
Assessment of needs:
· Assists with identifying health education and fitness needs of the community.
· Assists with identifying disease prevention and health promotion needs of individual participant’s goals and objectives in consultation with the health care providers.
Planning and Implementation:
· Assists with planning and implementation of health education and physical fitness programs in response to identified needs.
Fitness Program:
· Applies risk factor analysis and certain aspects of life-style counseling to Wellness Center members. Refers special cases to the Clinic Health Care Providers for final medical clearance procedure prior to allowance of exercise.
· Administration of fitness assessments, including circumference measurements, muscular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, resting heart rate and others as assigned.
· Referral of cardiac, diabetic, obese, sedentary patients to professional staff members such as Primary Care Providers, Registered Dietitians, Certified Diabetes Educators, Mental Health Therapist, Dental Hygienist and Physical Therapist.
· Provides fitness information, education and coaching.
· Conducts Group Fitness Classes (aerobic, circuit training, HIIT, kick boxing, yoga, etc.) with various intensities offered within each class.
· Develops and modifies exercise regimes for individuals and groups.
· Develops community based health and fitness related programs.
· Orientation and instruction of all exercise equipment.
· Floor supervision during exercise activity.
· Instruction of fitness and education classes at various targeted sites.
· Instruction of fitness related activity and education classes to school aged children in a formal classroom setting.
· Conducts home visits as needed in conjunction with Health Clinic Staff.
Health Education Program:
· Assists with planning and implementing of health education programs and special events.
· Assists with evaluation of health education and fitness program effectiveness.
Wellness Center Operation Overall:
· Involvement in all daily operational duties.
· Marketing and promotion of health education and fitness programs to community and employees.
· Attends job related training sessions as required.
· Must abide by the HIPAA Guidelines and Tribal Confidentiality policy.
· Must be able to utilize and maintain electronic health records in a timely manner.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education/ Professional Skills: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a degree related to Health, Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, etc., or equivalent years of experience in similar field. Must have Personal Training Certification, a valid Florida Driver’s License prior to employment and while employed. Must be willing to travel as necessary.

Job Site: Miccosukee Indian Reservation located 20 Miles West of Krome Avenue on SW 8th Street.
