What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler II position at Michael Angelo's?
The Material Handler is responsible for material flow throughout the warehouses and providing the Production Department team members with front-to-end material requirements for the manufacturing process and shipping.
Essential Functions:
- Receive and deliver materials, supplies, and small tools and equipment used in the maintenance area
- Load and unload trucks
- Manage inventory in dry, cooler, and freezer warehouses
- Conduct daily physical inventories and record data using written and electronic methods
- Track the receiving, inventory, and shipment of materials
- Transfer materials and supplies between several locations using a delivery truck and electronic transfers
- Kit the required materials per job and stage all raw materials necessary for production to designated staging area; restock unused material
- Track inventory quantities and advise necessary team members of low levels and reordering needs
- Maintain materials in order
- Perform cycle audits and physical inventories
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times with fellow team members, vendors and customers
- Provide timely, professional, and quality customer service, both to internal and external customers
- Adhere to Michael Angelo's policies, procedures, and practices, either written or implied
- Contribute to the overall team effort by supporting other work areas as workload permits
- Communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues
- Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload
- Perform required duties in a safe manner and promote company safety program
- Operate various types of material-handling tools, including forklifts, pallet jacks, computers, and other electronic data-collection devices
- Correctly ship and receive items following approved procedures, to include: HACCP documentation, lot codes, temperature verification, receiving documentation, and shipping documentation
- Check all shipments and make record of any discrepancies in condition, quantity, weight, and description
- Prepare receiving, inventory control, production support, and shipping documentation
- Compute net weights, tare weights, and gross weights of merchandise
- Accurately complete and turn in the daily inventory log after balancing it with production
- Verify incoming shipments against the original purchase order and the accompanying bill of lading or invoice
- Sort and appropriately place materials on racks or shelves, or in bins
- Correctly rotate (FIFO) and organize finished goods, ingredients, and materials
- Keep warehouse and work area clean and organized at all times
- Ensure proper utilization of warehouse space
- Perform daily maintenance on all material-handling equipment, batteries, and electronic devices
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of recent material-handling experience
- Computer literacy
- Recent forklift certification is required
- Must be able to interface and communicate in a positive and professional manner with team members from Production, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, and Accounting, as well as with Maintenance Technicians
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and possess strong organization and attention to detail
- Must be willing to work flexible and sometimes long hours
- Must have an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and be able to demonstrate knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel as well as the ability to use warehouse management systems
- Ability to speak and understand basic English
Physical Demands and WOrk Environment
- Factory environment, including refrigerated warehouses
- Often works in loud environment requiring ear protection; certain areas also require eye protection
- Floors can become slippery, requiring slip-resistant shoes
- Team member must be able to lift 50 - 75 lbs. and occasionally move up to 100 lbs
