JOB SUMMARY:
Northwest Community Schools has a vacancy for a highly qualified Director of Instruction. Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Northwest Community Schools, the Director of Instruction will provide leadership in all aspects affecting the on-going development and improvement of the curriculum and instructional programs of the district and grants. The Director will collaborate with administrators, staff, students, families, and community members.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meets appropriate Michigan Administrative Certification.
- Valid Teaching Certificate.
- Masters or Ed.S. in School Administration, Leadership or Curriculum.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
- Three years of successful administrative experience.
- District-wide leadership experience.
- Experience with grant writing and implementation.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves on the Superintendent Cabinet with all District Directors
- Serves as the State and Federal Programs Director to coordinate Consolidated Applications for State and Federal programs (Title I, IIa, IV, 31a At-Risk)
- Writes all academic programming Grants and Coordinates programming for each grant such as:
- Section 35J for K-5 Literacy; 23G Kids Back on Track
- 99B Computer Science; Robotics
- FAFSA MiLeap; Career Prep; MCAN
- Homeless- McKinney Vento
- Bilingual Section 41 and Title III
- Local Grants: John George, Al Glick Foundation, Sigmund Foundation
- Coordinates K-12 MICIP Process and District Annual Education Report.
- Coordinates District all MTSS Team efforts with the MTSS Coordinator including District Implementation, Behavior, Attendance, and Content Teams. This includes ensuring all protocols such as agendas, implementation plans, and monitoring processes are followed.
- Assist in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning all instructional personnel.
- Coordinates, plans, and conducts all NW 360 (District MICIP team) meetings.
- Coordinates and executes annual district professional development plan including Early Release planning.
- Coordinates ongoing research and maintains the most up-to-date knowledge in best practices around student learning and instruction.
- Coordinates all administrative team efforts related to any academic programs including, but not limited to Advanced Placement, Grading, Scheduling, Course Offerings, Graduation Requirements, PACT Certification, and Career Pathways.
- Coordinates all district functions as related to student achievement including aligning Michigan Curriculum Standards, providing instructional resources, and facilitating instructional delivery systems
- Coordinates the Comprehensive District Assessment Plan including common assessments, progress monitoring assessments, benchmark assessments, and state and national assessments. (MSTEP, MiAccess, MME, PSAT, SAT, Work Keys, NAEP, WIDA)
- Coordinates Data Collection processes including warehousing, analyzing, problem solving, and action planning.
- Oversees the implementation of the Teacher Evaluation System 5 Dimensions of Teaching and Learning , the School Advanced Administrative Evaluation System.
- Supports principals and staff in maintaining a positive learning/working climate in all buildings through systematic acknowledgment systems for staff and students.
- Assists principals and teaching staff in researching, planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring all district K-12 curriculum.
- Represents the District on the JCISD Curriculum Specialists Committee and any other countywide committees as determined by the Superintendent.
- Coordinates district McKinney Vento program for homeless students in cooperation with the District Homeless Liaison.
- Coordinates the District 504 process and works with JCISD in collaboration with the Special Education Supervisor to oversee all Special Education programs in the District.
- Coordinates and oversees the District English Language Learner Program in cooperation with the District ELL staff.
- Coordinates the development, budgeting, and implementation of District Curriculum Accounts including all grants. Oversees the piloting, purchasing, billing, and vendor interactions for all curriculum-related products.
- Coordinates District Counselor/ Behavior Interventionist Team in the implementation of Trails-SEL curriculum, Social Groups, Counselor evaluation, and Mentor Process.
- Coordinates District Sex Education Advisory Board and all Reproductive Curriculum and programs.
- Coordinates Mentor/Mentee program for Teachers as well as develops New Teacher Programming and Training.
- Plans and/or Conducts Professional Learning as needed in areas such as Leadership, Literacy, Coaching, and Instructional Practices. This includes planning and executing District Opening Day activities and Administrative Retreat.
- Coordinates SCECH programming including agenda development and content creation.
- Attend appropriate conferences, workshops, and seminars and represent the school district on local, regional, and state curriculum committees.
- Prepare reports and materials to provide administrative staff and the Board of Education with information relative to the instructional program.
- Implement/enhance communication networks to enhance the delivery, implementation, operation, and evaluation of the instructional program.
- Works with the Principals and Teacher Committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental meetings, and grade level chairs to effect horizontal and vertical continuity of the instructional program throughout the district.
- Coordinates K-12 Summer School and After-school Programming.
- Evaluates and reviews the performance of all staff who report to this position including Principals, District Coordinators, and Curriculum Support Staff.
- Actively Participate in all bargaining unit contract negotiations.
- Coordinate with the District Technology Supervisor to evaluate all instructional software and technology processes for instructional staff such as AI usage and Technology Instruction.
- All other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.
SUPERVISES : Building Principals, Central Office Instructional Team, and oversight of professional teachers and support staff.

Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 negotiable commensurate with education and experience
Twelve-month work year with salary, benefits, and working conditions to be established by the board. , 8 hours per day. Must successfully complete a 90-day probationary period. Paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, sick, vacation and personal business days.
EVALUATION:
The Superintendent will evaluate performance based on State of Michigan guidelines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate. The employee must work with the public and other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people. Adaptable to frequent interruptions. Lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing may or may not be an essential part of the daily routine.
