Job Summary :
To provide early childhood services for young children with disabilities or developmental delay in family and community settings to children from birth through age 3 and their families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field of study is required.
- Endorsement in Special Education Teaching Area – ECSE, ZS. Multiple endorsements preferred.
- Must meet the State of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education.
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with others.
- Demonstrate ability to provide leadership in curriculum development and individual student problems solving.
- Interest and knowledge in assistive technology and augmentative communication systems would be helpful.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Provide regular support and consultation to parents.
- Meet as necessary with staff focused upon program development and staff training.
- Cooperate with other teacher consultants in providing in-service training and direct teacher support.
- Upon referral, conduct individual student evaluations for the purpose of offering strategies that strengthen the instructional delivery system.
- Assist special education personnel with the special education planning process as needed including data recording and collection, MET evaluations, and IEPT meetings.
- Attend monthly program level special education team meetings for programs assigned for the purpose of enhancing communication and facilitating the coordination of special education programs and services.
- Maintain, prepare and process the district’s required documentation, which includes but not limited to the following: Program data, student count, etc.
- Keep the building principal, program supervisor, local school district coordinator of special education and the ISD director of special education informed of any issues that may significantly impact the delivery of special education programs and services.
- Be able to travel to the homes of identified students.
