Position Details

SUMMARY

An IS Support Specialist specializes in an area of application support, hardware/network support and Internet services support. The specialist will install, modify, repair, diagnose and research hardware, software and Internet systems that support the educational environment. Support various operating systems, Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, Linux, ChromeOS and web-based applications such as GSuite for Education and Microsoft 365. Provide technical assistance and support local districts instructional technology needs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree in Information Systems or relevant experience with a minimum of one – three years of experience in related field
  • Highly motivated individual that will take initiative to keep systems and end users working at peak efficiency
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interaction skills
  • Team player
  • Educational environment work experience preferred
Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid state driver’s license and good driving record required. A and Network certifications preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Document/demonstrate current knowledge of desktop computers, peripheral equipment, database management, word processing, spreadsheets and open systems technology required. Demonstrate knowledge of PC basics, including technical terminology and acronyms and working knowledge of PC systems and peripheral connectivity. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and demonstrate effective time management skills to meet deadlines. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and group problem solving skills. Ability to travel to and from work sites. Ability to work a flexible workday and workweek. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures. Ability to read, understand, and apply information in hardware/software manuals or following computer instructions. Ability to work as part of a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate experience in setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronics equipment and networks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer, view video display terminals; reach with hands and arms; sit, use hands and fingers to grip, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; talk and hear. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. (ie: printers, CPUs, monitors, servers, etc.) Ability to utilize a ladder as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Able to operate a personal motor vehicle.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must have knowledge and comply with the St. Joseph County ISD Personnel handbook.
  • Successfully passed FBI fingerprint analysis and Felony conviction review.
  • Accurately maintain inventory of devices for districts.
  • Reviews and responds to end user inquiries from the ticket system regarding system operations, the specialist will diagnose hardware, software, Internet and end user problems; performs repairs to needed specifications. Enters, maintains and updates ticket system entries of end user issues and repairs.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network. Demonstrate unquestionable integrity when dealing with all district personnel.
  • Creates, updates or modifies knowledge base or documents regarding hardware, software and data system procedures for distribution to end users and technicians.
  • Assist students with logging into systems utilizing the Student Information System (SIS).
  • Work within Google Admin to assist in utilization of Chrome devices and software management with in the Google ecosystem including Google Classroom.
  • Utilize various network management systems to help diagnose issues that may arise on various devices for connections and security.
  • Provide light end user support with physical security products to help maintain usage of software and updating access for authorized personnel.
  • Provide support with Mobile Device Manager (MDM) for various software to end point devices.
  • Work with district and staff to make technology purchases that follow local district policy on device and software requests.
  • Provide end user support for printers and print management services.
  • Assist with conference room setup for various meetings.
  • Become familiar with district level classroom audio and visual learning tools to assist end users with various a/v issues.
  • Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct end user problems.
  • Provide end-user training in an individual or group setting and provide training for new hire orientation.
  • Coordinates activities with other IS Team Members to help provide coverage and support for the county consortium using various methods of communication available to the team.
  • Adhere to IS Services team decisions in proper operation, installation and procedures agreed to in standards throughout the schools in the county.
  • Work with the IS Network Team to resolve issues within local districts.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Other duties as assigned by IS Services Team and/or IS Management.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260-day position. Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the Board of Education.
