TITLE: LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT AIDE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum high school diploma
- Previous experience with students with disabilities such an emotional impairment, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder or autism spectrum disorder who have behavioral difficulties
- Good gross and fine motor skills and the ability to follow instructions
- Demonstrate an even temper, calm demeanor, and an abundance of patience
- Must have (or secure within the first school year) CPI certification
- Enjoys working with students in providing personal and instructional assistance with a caring attitude
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and staff
- Establish positive communication and relationships with parents
- No physical limitations that would prevent the individual from being capable of performing emergency safety interventions, when needed
REPORTS TO: Director Special Education
SUPERVISES: NA
JOB GOAL: Will work under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher or school social worker to enhance the participation of the learner in the school community.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Will assist student with making appropriate choices
- Will be proactive in regards to helping student avoid severe behaviors
- Implement the emergency use of seclusion and/or restraint consistent with District policies, if a student’s behavior poses an imminent risk to the safety of that student or others
- Will protect teacher and other students if student’s behavior becomes severe
- Will help student become more independent
- Will help to minimize disruptions in the general and/or special education classroom
- Facilitate student’s participation in general education and/or special education classroom
- Will assist with instructional modifications and accommodations
- Will assist with communicative programs
- Will facilitate social relationships with peers
- Will implement and monitor behavior interventions
- Support student with academics
- Ability to be flexible and follow directions from the student’s team
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must complete CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training within the first school year. The individual assigned to this position is a school year employee.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
EVALUATION: Participate in & accept annual performance reviews.
