JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Maintenance/Custodial position ensures the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of the district’s facilities and grounds. This position primarily focuses on maintenance tasks, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, while also managing routine custodial duties to maintain a safe and clean environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on all equipment and systems.
- Assist with construction or building projects, including repairs and installations.
- Maintain and operate tools and equipment in proper working condition.
- Help load, unload and move supplies and equipment.
- Order and manage inventory of maintenance and custodial supplies.
- Respond to emergency repair calls promptly and efficiently.
- Implement and monitor a preventative maintenance program for district facilities.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in assigned areas, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, sinks, and showers; restock supplies as needed.
- Secure buildings after hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting alarms.
- Assist with snow removal, including shoveling, salting sidewalks, and clearing entrances.
- Perform landscaping tasks, such as mowing, trimming, weeding and watering.
- Assist with waste management by emptying trash and recycling receptacles.
- Ensure all facilities meet safety standards and comply with regulations.
- Work collaboratively with administration and staff to address building needs.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding district operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or trade school training preferred.
- Proven experience in maintenance, custodial work, or a related field.
- Preferred 2 plus years of experience with building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and technical instructions.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining industrial tools and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical stamina to lift and move items over 60 pounds, work on ladders, and endure extended periods of standing or walking.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License and must be capable of driving a standard shift truck.
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.
