POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (ASD Classroom)
START DATE: As soon as possible
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate
SE endorsement in the area of Autism preferred
Must meet state requirements in area of certification with K-12 endorsement in:
- Emotional Impairment (SE) or
- Learning Disability (SM) or
- Cognitive Impairment (SA)
Must meet or exceed North Central and MDE accreditation standards.
Must meet criteria for “Highly Qualified” status under Every Child Succeeds Act
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must follow district and state curricula and assessment requirements.
- Knowledge of current curriculum trends in special education.
- Knowledge and ability to effectively apply the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks/ Extended Grade Level Content Expectations with particular emphasis on teaching, learning and assessment standards.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with grade level/department/interdisciplinary team
- Knowledge of and commitment to regularly use technology as an instructional tool to enhance teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement on a regular basis cooperative learning strategies and flexible grouping strategies.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement on a regular basis higher order thinking skill development.
- Demonstrate ability to develop an interdisciplinary approach to delivering instructional outcomes.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork, i.e., IEP’s, Medicaid billings, Functional Behavioral Assessments, Positive Behavior Support Plans, etc.
- Knowledge and understanding around the requirements of and supports needed when utilizing seclusion and restraint in Michigan.
- Follow and implement all Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines and building regulations.
