POSITION OPENING: School Health Nurse Consultant

SALARY DETAILS:

$98,989 – $114,797 annually based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $123,624 after employment with Oakland Schools.

Exempt position / 12-month work year.

WHAT WE NEED:

  • Providing leadership and professional development opportunities for quality school nursing.
  • Aiding school-based nurses in the development of specialized services to provide support to students and families in home and school settings.
  • Provides consultation support for staff serving students/families in home and school settings, including those with handicapping conditions, visual impairments, or hearing impairments (with masks).
  • Serve as a liaison and resource advocate for school nursing services in Oakland County districts, partnering with community agencies.
  • Monitoring, interpreting, synthesizing, and disseminating relevant research findings and other information related to public and school health, school nursing practice, current legal issues, and new legislation that impacts school health services.
  • Collaborating as an active team member in organizational projects in conjunction with other OS staff to ensure client needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Interpreting and disseminating model policies, standards, and best practices to promote safe, legal, and effective school nursing services.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and state school health advocates to expand the level of knowledge and understanding among educators, parents, and the general public of the critical link between health status and a student’s capacity to learn,
  • Planning, using professional judgment, and acting effectively to carry out the functions of this position within the direction provided by OS mission and goals and Educational Services goals and objectives.
  • Partner with community agencies to provide technical assistance to nurse in local districts and public-school academies on federal legislation/regulations and state mandates.
  • Proficient in reading and synthesizing research; compile, summarize, and represent complex information in simplified formats (visuals, matrices, diagrams, charts/graphs etc.)
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have great interpersonal/communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and explain complex information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
  • State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • Michigan Department of Education Professional School Nurse Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of practical experience as a school nurse preferred.
  • Demonstrated:
    • Knowledge of common chronic and acute health conditions in newborn through young adult populations,
    • Experience providing school nursing and school health related consultation and leadership to school districts and community agencies,
    • Recent work with school personnel in integrating current research-based school health strategies into the school environment,
    • Training, group facilitation, and process skills – ability to properly utilize technology necessary in conducting professional learning and work productivity
    • Ability in developing and maintaining community partnership.
