Department: Portfolio Management

Reports To: Vice President-Credit Administration

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Grade Level: 800

Hours 7/8:30 am – 4/5:30 pm Monday – Friday*

Location Ann Arbor, MI 48105*, with frequent day travel required

SUMMARY

The Portfolio Manager I is responsible for commercial credit analysis and portfolio risk monitoring.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manage and service a portfolio of commercial loan relationships while maintaining, expanding and building relationships, resulting in a high degree of customer satisfaction.

  • Monitor information related to borrower performance, abilities, and industry to determine that loan is an acceptable risk. This will consist of statement, covenant and insurance tracking, risk rating updates, administrative loan status reports and other commercial scorecard items.
  • Oversee the management of portfolio risk associated with current borrowers, including review of current account status, to include, but not limited to, past due accounts and matured notes, and provide recommendations for such accounts.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment through interpretation of loan documents and interaction with Borrowers and Credit Unions.
  • Prepare documentation required for the processing of loans, review status of existing loans, take appropriate action on loans that are mature or past due and perform loan closings.
  • Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit and provide lending recommendations, which are based on an analysis of borrower’s financial condition, cash flow, capacity, collateral and ability to repay.
  • Prepare reports on loans, including information such as past dues, documentation and collateral exceptions, financial performance updates and portfolio profitability. Provide accurate analysis of financial statements, industry risks, collateral requirements and credit risk required to appropriately structure loans.
  • Utilize spreadsheet programs to generate financial ratios, trend lines, etc. to evaluate existing borrowers’ financial status and their performance against peer groups.
  • Conduct borrower interviews as needed to develop information concerning lending needs, abilities and earnings to determine whether a loan is of acceptable risk.
  • Implement strategic and tactical business solutions to enhance the management of loans to mitigate risk and minimize losses.
  • Review borrower files and portfolio reports to identify and select delinquent accounts for review and/or collection. Participate in collection efforts and determination of loan work out scenarios.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to Financial Analysts and Interns.
  • Perform other credit and risk management duties as required.
  • Actively participate with credit unions and borrowers in the negotiation of loan terms and structure requirements.
  • Demonstrate continued focus on borrower retention efforts and identify opportunities to expand existing relationships.

SUCCESS MEASUREMENTS:

Success in this position is primarily measured as the maintenance and reporting of timely risk awareness and demonstration of effective action and compliance by the function in the services rendered, as well as the visible demonstration of company values.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S. ) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal credit training program and at least one year of commercial credit analysis experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before members or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

*MBC operates within a flex time environment, allowing reasonable employee discretion in start and end times. Certain functions may be supported from a work at home environment as agreed to by the MBC president.

Pay: $66,082.00 - $99,123.00 per year
