Graphics Specialist

Michigan Can Lines is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Graphics Specialist to support the design, development, and implementation of artwork for aluminum can decoration. The Graphics Specialist will work closely with the design, production, and marketing teams to create visually appealing and on-brand graphics for various can designs. This role requires technical proficiency with design software, strong attention to detail, and an understanding of the production process to ensure that designs meet both quality and production standards.

Responsibilities:

• Design and create artwork for aluminum can decorations, including labels, logos, product names, and branding elements, ensuring they align with customer specifications and brand standards.
• Collaborate with the production and design teams to prepare digital artwork files and assist in preparing them for the printing process, ensuring files are print-ready.
• Ensure all artwork complies with industry standards, including color specifications, printing limitations, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, safety labels).
• Work with the marketing team to ensure artwork aligns with product campaigns, seasonal releases, and other promotional activities.
• Provide support in the creation of mock-ups, prototypes, and digital proofs for internal teams and customers for review and approval.
• Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot issues related to design, color matching, or production challenges that arise during the decoration process.
• Maintain and organize a digital archive of artwork files, templates, and design revisions for easy access and version control.
• Monitor the decoration process to ensure the accurate transfer of digital designs onto aluminum cans, ensuring that designs meet quality standards and production requirements.
• Assist in managing artwork deadlines and coordinating production schedules to meet customer and company requirements.
• Keep up to date with trends in design, materials, and the aluminum can industry to continually improve artwork and stay competitive in the market.
• Provide design feedback and suggestions to improve decoration methods, enhancing visual appeal and production efficiency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in graphic design, preferably in a packaging, manufacturing, or printing environment. Experience in the aluminum can industry is a plus.
• Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other industry-standard design tools.
• Strong understanding of color theory, typography, and layout principles, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
• Knowledge of prepress processes, file preparation for printing, and understanding of color management systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including marketing, production, and quality control.
• Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and external customers.
• Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with the technical aspects of can decoration (e.g., screen printing, offset printing) and how artwork translates into production.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and other hazards.

Working Conditions:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to physical hazards, including high noise levels, chemicals, and moving machinery. Employees are required to wear PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and protective clothing, in accordance with safety guidelines.
