What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional - MI - Category II Classification A (2024-25 school year) position at Michigan City Area Schools?
Work Schedule: School year only; 5.75 hours per day
Reports to: Building Principal, unless otherwise noted
General Purpose
The Paraprofessional is to assist the teacher with the implementation of Individual Education Programs of students identified with disabilities. It is the responsibility of the teacher to provide direct instruction to the students, providing the Paraprofessional guidance in a variety of areas. The role of the Paraprofessional is to work in a supportive capacity as part of a team to meet the needs of each student. Teacher assistance may be provided across multiple settings such as special education classrooms, general education classrooms, and other designated learning environments within the school or community. In addition, Paraprofessionals assist with classroom procedures that may include but are not limited to; educational support, mobility support, vocational support, behavior support, assistance with functional skills, and physical or occupational therapy support.
Main Job Tasks and ResponsibilitiesMaintain student and staff confidentiality
Comply with standard rules, regulations, and procedures assigned by Building Principal
Be part of the total support team for students and staff
Be professional when dealing with students, staff, and parents
Support the teacher and related staff, who provide service for the student
Support the educator/teacher's overall goals and objectives for each individual student
Aid in the development and maintenance of a positive work environment
Communicate concerns to the administrator or assigned teacher in a timely and professional manner
Be on time and maintain good attendance, report to the requested area or work site
Attend in-services upon notification, when provided during a school day
Request teacher support when necessary or when more explanation is needed
Communicate important information to the teacher concerning the student
ED positions require the ability to complete CPI training
MO positions require assistance with student's hygiene
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
60 college credit hours or passing score on the Para Pro Exam
Previous experience working with students. Desire to make a positive difference and be a positive influence in student's lives. Understanding and experience in an educational setting. Positive employment history and recommendations from a previous supervisor.
Salary and Benefits
Salary Scope: $13.52 per hour
