The Department of Water Works of Michigan City, is seeking applicants for multiple Laborer Positions for the Distribution Center.
The minimum qualifications include:
Strong mechanical ability and the understanding of basic plumbing principles. This position requires the performance of physically strenuous work in all weather conditions, which includes the operation of various types of equipment such as pumps, electric thawing machine, tapping machine, pneumatic air tools (i.e. jackhammer, tamping machine), and various hand tools, such as wrenches, shovels, rakes, etc.
Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds; able to bend, twist, stoop, stand and climb ladders; able to enter vaults and confined spaces with proper PPE.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must obtain during probationary period and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License, as well as maintain the ability to be insured to drive Department vehicles.
Must be capable of being contacted for after-hours call-in and stand-by status.
Two (2) years of experience in water distribution systems is preferred.
