Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager

Michigan Consulting & Environmental is seeking full-time Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager to join our Brighton, Mt Pleasant and Traverse City Michigan offices. We are looking for highly motivated, hands-on individuals with five to ten years of experience in the field of geology or environmental science to join our team currently serving both our industrial and commercial clients.

Overview: The successful candidates will work on a variety of site investigations, due diligence assessments, UST removals, and site remediation projects, while collaborating with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientists, project managers, and administrative staff. Field experience including soil logging and sampling, installation of soil borings and monitoring wells, aquifer testing, and low flow groundwater sampling. Experience in performing hazardous waste site investigations, wetlands delineation, Part 201 & 213, installation and sampling of soil vapor points and vapor pins, preparation of Phase I, Phase II, BEA and Due Care plans are required. Remedial construction oversight experience is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities:

Conduct field work that will include; soil, sediment, ground water, and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, soil boring and monitoring well installation oversight and soil logging[ME1] , well development, purging and sampling, installation of vapor points and vapor pins and collection of soil vapor samples.

·       Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.[ME2] 

·       Oversee/Support the removal of Underground Storage Tanks

·       Provide construction oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.

·       Preparation and review of Initial Assessment Reports (IAR), Final Assessment Reports (FAR) and Closure Reports.

·       Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.

·       Perform Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments to support property transfer transactions.

·       Prepare SPCC and SWPPP plans, secondary containment[ME3] , and environmental control [ME4] studies and reports.

·       Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers.

·       Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

·       Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Skills:

·       A self-starter possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Ability to effectively communicate with key stakeholders including local, state, federal regulators, project managers, project engineers, and other members of the project team.

·       Recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature and utilize your skills and training to develop and implement solutions.

·       Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field and in the office and as part of a team.

·       Possess excellent analytical problem-solving skills.

·       Ability to multi-task multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict[ME5] deadlines

  Desired Qualifications:

·       Education: B.S. degree in geology, engineering, or the sciences.

·       Minimum of 5 to 10 years of environmental related consulting experience including environmental investigations, sampling, and report writing.

·       AutoCAD experience

·       Industrial Stormwater Operator

·       Asbestos Inspector

·       OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER certification.

·       Perform field related responsibilities during all four seasons.

·       Requires travel to job sites and, on occasion, out of the local area for overnight stays.

·       Valid Michigan Driver’s License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug-related traffic offenses.

Ability to physically walk freely around job sites and equipment as needed and lift up to 40 pounds.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
