Job Summary: This position requires the successful candidate to provide dedicated radio dispatching duties. This position assists the Transportation Director and METS pupil transportation staff to maintain and promote positive community and employee relations while meeting the service goals of the department. This position shall also require other duties as needed.
Responsibilities: Maintain communications with bus drivers utilizing 2-way radio devices.
1. Work with drivers, school administrators, emergency services and the general public to facilitate resolution for problems encountered by drivers and monitors on daily routes and trips.
2. Assist with bus routing and other Transportation Department operations such as assignment of bus drivers, monitors and substitutes to bus runs.
3. Assist with posting of trips and scheduling of buses and drivers for extra-curricular activities (athletic & field trips) as requested by teams and school groups, including maintenance of all necessary records, permits, invoicing and so forth pertaining to each field trip or activity.
4. Assist with the maintenance of an accurate Driver Call List available for Department use.
5. Maintain familiarity with all bus routes in the district.
6. Additional duties as requested.
Requirements:
1. Ability to relate to and work well with parents, students, District employees and other METS staff members in a professional manner. Display a familiarity with the City of Jackson, MI
2. Ability to learn Transfinder school bus routing software.
3. Follow and successfully respond to District rules and regulations.
4. Follow and successfully respond to METS policies and procedures.
5. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
6. Must pass State and FBI Criminal Background Check
7. Ability to tolerate stressful situations.
8. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED).
9. Strong office/clerical skills (typing, filing, bookkeeping, and general computer skills).
10. Proficient customer service skills including the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with drivers, parents, community members and staff.
7. Obtain and/or maintain a CDL with P & S endorsements while undergoing pre-employment and random drug testing per DOT regulations and maintain an eligible driving record per all applicable employer policies and state/federal laws. Drive routes and trips as needed.

Work Calendar: This is a full time 52 week position.
Compensation: $24.25 per hour, with paid holidays, paid personal days, 401k retirement savings plan, Health, Dental & Vision insurance options.
