The Field Agent is responsible for emergency and non-emergency rescue and transport of sick, injured, and dying animals. Additionally, the Field Agent is responsible for educating the public regarding proper animal care, and compliance with state law. Lastly, the Field Agent is responsible for dispatching emergency and non-emergency rescue and cruelty calls and documenting animal complaints.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations. Pick up and transport sick, injured, and dying animals to the shelter for medical attention.
- Receive emergency and non-emergency cruelty and rescue calls and dispatch field agents and/or investigators as appropriate. Effectively coordinate communications between shelter medical staff and emergency responders.
- Monitor the security cameras, gate entry, and location of field personnel to ensure their safety.
- Follow-up with open animal cruelty investigations.
- Receive, organize, and document animal complaints before going out into the field.
- Spend time on the road investigating complaints and assist in police/cruelty investigators with rescues and freeing entrapped animals.
- Instruct homeowners on how to provide better quality care for their pets. Serve as a resource if they need help caring for their pets in the future.
- Check emails and voicemails daily; return calls and respond to emails; document the information provided by the caller or person who sent the email.
- At the end of the day, update the information in the computer from all the daily calls.
- Keep vehicles clean.
- Testify in court, as needed.
- Transport animals to other facilities, events, etc.
- Assist inside the shelter as needed with customer service (e.g., intakes, adoptions, lost animals, walk-through, euthanasia, general cleaning, etc.)
- Miscellaneous projects as requested.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stay calm and have good decision-making and conflict-resolution skills, especially in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to control difficult situations to achieve the desired results
- Good communication skills, diplomacy, and tact especially dealing with the public
- Ability to spend long periods in a vehicle and deal with unpredictable working conditions
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds; occasionally climb, jump, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl
- Ability to consistently adhere to prescribed protocols
- High school diploma is required
- Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) training - Levels I, II, and III or equivalent preferred
- A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Must possess knowledge of safe animal handling techniques
- Possesses a current diver's license and good driving record
- Basic computer and software skills; use of phone, fax, and copier
