The Shelter Veterinarian provides high-quality medical care in the Michigan Humane Shelter. The Shelter Veterinarian will assess. diagnose, and treat patients; make a recommendation regarding the adoptability of an animal; and monitor the herd health of the population.
Responsibilities:
- Provide outstanding medical care, including, but not limited to, routine examinations, vaccinations, emergency triage and stabilizations, dental procedures, surgical procedures, euthanasia, and necessary diagnostics.
- Provide high-quality medical care to shelter animals including diagnosing and treating patients, making recommendations regarding the adoptability of an animal, and monitoring the herd health of the population.
- Order diagnostic tests as needed, interpret results, and recommend treatment plans.
- Provide medical and surgical care to shelter animals housed in foster homes.
- Administer and accurately monitor controlled substances.
- Maintain and complete patient records.
- Serve as a mentor to support staff.
Qualifications:
- A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Michigan, including Michigan Veterinary License, Michigan Veterinary Controlled Substance License, DEA License, and Accreditation in the State of Michigan
- Strong proficiency in medical knowledge and surgical skills
