Job Summary

This position is a member of the Project Management Office within Michigan Medicine, Ambulatory Care Services. The primary objective of this role is to identify, lead, drive and manage work that supports the strategies, initiatives, and goals of office of the organization primarily supporting the office of the Chief Operating Officer. The individual must have strong clinical, project management and data analysis experience. An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to be proactive, organized, approachable, collaborative and intuitive.

Strategic Initiatives

Responsible for the development, implementation, and support for programs and projects that ensure operational efficiency, enhanced safety, increased productivity, reduced cost, and continuous improvement. Manages the day-to-day operational needs as well as the strategic goals of the business. This will include monitoring progress and performance against the project plan, identifying and resolving operational problems, and minimizing delays.

Responsibilities*

  • High-level administrative planning, coordination and facilitation of strategic initiatives within Ambulatory Care Services (ACS).
  • Maintains relationships and collaborates closely with leaders across the institution to advance ACS initiatives.
  • Prepares and/or analyzes proposals on complex initiatives, making recommendations, action plans and implementing as appropriate.
  • Supports the Ambulatory Executive Leadership with various tasks including but not limited to meeting facilitation, agenda planning, content development, project and priorities planning, policy development, and program management.
  • Manages programs and/or projects to enhance strategic initiatives. Plans, implements, and evaluates specific projects designed to enhance system effectiveness. Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of defined programs to promote attainment of system goals.
  • Synthesizes large quantities of data and information to support succinct communications to influence decision-making and inform broad audiences.
  • Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of strategic priority areas to enable independent handling of appropriate matters.
  • Coordinates, reviews, and summarizes relevant literature sources and briefing requests as assigned.
  • May work on initiatives that span across several service lines.
  • May serve as interim leadership.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in health services administration, healthcare, business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive work and leadership experience in healthcare with experience in understanding clinical work and workflows.
  • Demonstrated by the ability to work effectively with ambulatory leaders, physician faculty, administrative staff and teams across various disciplines across the organization.
  • Strategic, systems-based thinking with the ability to synthesize complex data into valuable and actionable insights.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions, prioritize workload, manage deadlines and organize workflow in a multi- layered matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, influence and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong leadership, project management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of creativity, initiative, and resourcefulness.
  • Solid independent judgement and self- motivation.


Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine's systems, policies and procedures
  • Master's degree in health services, healthcare or business administration
  • Lean/ Six Sigma training


Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
