- Serve as clerical assist to the clinical team in the Adult Multispecialty Clinic at the Brighton Center for Specialty Care. Provide clerical support and work collaboratively with all Adult Multispecialty providers, clinical care coordinators, patients and families, medical assistants and administrative support staff to assist with complex care coordination to patients.
- Obtain authorizations with proper diagnosis and/or procedure codes for medications, patient assistance forms for medications, and durable medical equipment. Obtain proper insurance address and documentation requirements for the letter of medical necessity to be sent to the insurance company as needed. Track pending authorizations. Maintain files on cases until approved or denied. When warranted, provide fees for patients with no insurance or no insurance authorization.
- Assist team to ensure appropriate medical records are obtained for initiation and completion of FMLA and Disability forms for all patients cared for in the Adult Multispecialty Clinic.
- Fax server and in-basket management support to the providers and nursing team.
- Pre-visit planning for new and return patient visits and complex management of patients to ensure ordered referrals and tests are completed as directed by providers. Communicate with the patient to confirm appointment dates and times.
- Functional supervision from the Adult Multispecialty Leaders. Staff members in this classification are expected to exercise judgment in identifying problems, seeking and implementing solutions.
- High School diploma or GED is necessary.
- Intermediate:3-4 years of experience
- Associate: 1-2 years of experience.
- This position requires excellent customer service skills to patient, families, faculty, staff and peers.
- All candidates must demonstrate a positive and professional attitude, providing outstanding customer service in all interactions.
- Must be a team player with ability to receive direction and communicate with patients / families, and staff courteously and respectfully at all times.
- Must be detail-oriented, have ability to multi-task and work in a high-volume area.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills in many applications in addition to experience in a medical office / outpatient practice.
- Requires flexibility in all aspects of work assignments.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional medical billing.
- Demonstrated active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
- Knowledge of check-in and check-out utilizing EPIC (Cadence) scheduling system and outpatient billing system.
- Previous experience in a multidisciplinary clinic and/or surgical clinic is desired.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Careweb, EPIC (MiChart), Outlook email, ORMIS and ability to navigate between systems.
- Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
- Familiarity with Michigan Medicine electronic medical record systems.
- Knowledge of university policies & procedures.
