Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Area Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Well-Being Office and various research partners to manage well-being metrics, conduct extensive data collection and analysis, facilitate research projects, and contribute to large-scale survey initiatives. This role involves strategic collaboration, project management, data communication, and providing evaluation and strategic insights to support institutional well-being initiatives.

Responsibilities*

  • Focus on collecting and utilizing well-being data to derive actionable insights that support strategic initiatives of the Well-Being Office.
  • Collaborate with research and study teams to provide expert statistical input on study design, execution, and analysis, while also advising on the selection and implementation of technologies and methodologies to optimize data processes.
  • Assist in facilitating well-being research projects and contribute to IRB submissions.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis for grant submissions, funding opportunities, and recognition program criteria such as the Joy in Medicine award program.
  • Assist with large-scale survey initiatives, including participation in the Physician Wellness Academic Consortium (PWAC).
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to integrate and apply data insights into practical improvements and initiatives, while effectively communicating analysis insights and research findings to partners and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the dissemination of research findings and data analysis for the Office of Well-being.
  • Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data.
  • Manage data and research projects to support evidence-based decisions, including assessing new workflows or the impact of technologies on the healthcare workforce.
  • Work with the Press Ganey vendor to manage well-being questions and metrics for the Vital Voices employment engagement surveys.
  • Work with internal employee engagement measurement teams to formulate institutional data collection strategies and goals.
  • Assist in executing large-scale basic and applied research studies on well-being topics, as well as various ad-hoc, solution-focused research projects.
  • Participate in current research collaborations, including projects like NIH AI R01, the Depression Center, and the Lorna Breen Foundation.


Required Qualifications*

  • Master?s degree or higher in social science, statistics, public health, organizational behavior, and management science or a related field.
  • Three or more years of extensive experience with applied (non-academic) data analytics, reporting, and storytelling
  • Proficient user of one or more statistical analysis software programs for the management and analysis of data (PWAC uses SPSS and R).
  • Strong understanding of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, especially those involving analysis of individual, group, and organizational level variables
  • Strong understanding of measurement development and validation methods such as latent variable modeling and factor analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to forge cross-functional and interdisciplinary partnerships.
  • Competence in working with large datasets and using them to develop and maintain dashboards and data visualizations
  • Ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proven collaboration skills with study design, data analysis, statistics/biostatistics, and data science teams.
  • Experience assisting with securing funding for grant initiatives.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Understanding of best practices for the measurement of behavioral, cognitive, and affective variables in organizational contexts
  • Familiarity with Michigan Medicine?s systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in data analytics programs like Toad and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, policies, and standards of Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan Medical School, and the University of Michigan Medical Group.


Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
