Michigan Millers is seeking a Systems Engineer I to join our team in Lansing!

This position will allow someone with a strong skillset in Server Infrastructure to join the team and grow with us as our technology expands. The role will focus more on the Server side but will also interact closely with storage, back and recovery, security, and network space.

Responsibilities of a Systems Engineer I include:

  • Provide day-to-day operational technical support and manage system processing and output for application systems/network servers.
  • Work with the Security Office on remediation of high-rated CVE and zero-day vulnerabilities
  • Perform system administration functions, security functions, operating system upgrades, software patches, and device configurations.
  • Deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
  • Collaborate with Desktop Services, Security, and Network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Perform server and system backup procedures and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Perform basic SAN Storage Administration. Ensure storage reliability and connectivity across network, servers, and disaster recovery site.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Create and maintain documentation for end-user acceptance.
  • Create and maintain documentation ensuring security compliance.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing and network systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports as required.
  • Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Act as an escalation point, providing third-level support.
  • Update support tickets and project tasks as assigned.


Requirements

What is a must-have?

  • 3 years of hands-on server experience, preferably in a Microsoft environment.
  • Provide intermediate-level experience with VMware or similar virtualization tools.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Basic (or higher) skills with SAN Storage Administration.
  • Basic Linux skill set
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
  • Experience working in Agile\DevOps team environment.
  • Experience with ITIL/ITSM and Change Management process.
  • Experience with backup and recovery.
  • Basic skills with scripting engines such as PowerShell.
  • Basic skills with Office 365, Azure AD, and Intune MDM.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to provide direction to team members and understand the different roles required to complete a project.
  • Ability to work additional hours to meet deadlines and/or complete projects.
  • Excellent troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Basic understanding of IT security practices.
  • Basic understanding of business continuity planning and practices.
  • Associate IT degree or equivalent work experience in a technical field.
  • Physical requirements: lift and rack servers within datacenter


Preferred Skills

  • A wide breadth of System knowledge
  • 3 years of Server experience
  • Strong background in Virtualization tools like VMware


Compensation Overview:

The targeted hiring range for this role is $69,065 – $86,355, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
