Michigan Orthopedic Center is a mid sized orthopedic office in Lansing, MI, with 18 licensed healthcare providers. Our surgeons are all fellowship trained and offer premier orthopedic services in Mid Michigan. We offer a setting that is professional, agile and fast-paced.
We have an opening for a Surgery Scheduler to join our growing team at a busy medical facility. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with the scheduling of surgical procedures and the ability to prioritize and manage large amounts of information. We're looking for an individual with excellent medical knowledge, the ability to work independently and in a team setting, and excellent communication skills. Under the direct supervision of the Practice Administrator, this position will be responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations, MRI/CT authorizations, coordinating surgery schedules, and executing clinical processes and protocols for MOC physicians.
Responsibilities:
- Professionally greet and interact with patients, patient representatives, customers, vendors, and other agencies.
- Complies with all OSHA, HIPAA, and Health Department requirements.
- Coordinate all scheduling aspects for patient surgical scheduling needs, including providing educational materials, tracking documents and confirmations, and communicating across all areas of scheduling.
- Communicate with hospital personnel to ensure block time, support staff, and logistics are properly documented, confirmed, and accurate according to guidelines.
- Communicate with vendors and sales representatives to ensure proper equipment and devices are ordered
- Collect pre-operative information, including prior medical records, medications, and/or existing conditions.
- Coordinate post-operative care, management, and scheduling as needed (i.e. Residential Home Health)
- Initiate and secure any insurance verifications/authorizations for surgery.
- Collect, confirm, and verify medical insurance coverage using various applications.
- Secure insurance authorizations as necessary based on service and insurance carrier guidelines.
- Coordinate and reconcile physician’s weekly MOC schedule, including verification that clinic and surgery schedules align with personal availability, schedule preferences and/or calendars.
- Fax and copy information as requested.
- Answer medical question phone calls from patients, typically with regards to pre-/post-operative questions/concerns, medication questions/refills, etc.
- Assists providers and other team members as appropriate when available.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED: Medical Office Experience and Terminology Knowledge
REQUIRED: Prior experience with electronic health records in a medical office (1 year)
REQUIRED: Insurance authorization/verification experience (1 year)
REQUIRED: Medical billing (1 year)
REQUIRED: Knowledge of various insurance plans and coverage guidelines.
REQUIRED: Positive attitude with stellar customer service skills, ability to multi-task, and work in a team environment.
