POSITION OVERVIEW
The Michigan PGA Section is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to support in all Section Tournament and Foundation (PGA REACH Michigan) operations. The Section Operations Coordinator will play a key role in executing Michigan PGA Section tournaments, junior golf and foundation programming events, PGA TOUR qualifiers, amongst other Section-related events. The position requires travel to most Section events and the ability to manage various aspects of event operations. The individual working in this position shall act on behalf of the Michigan PGA Section of the PGA of America and report to the Tournament and Foundation Department Directors.
ABOUT THE MICHIGAN PGA SECTION
The Michigan PGA Section, located in East Lansing, Michigan, is one of the 41 Sections of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The PGA of America, formed in 1916, has grown into the world’s largest working sports organization with more than 31,000 members and associates. Its mission is to promote enjoyment in the game of golf and contribute to the game’s growth by providing services to golf professionals and the industry. The Michigan PGA Section was founded in 1922 and consists of over 900 golf professionals and associates in Michigan.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tournament Operations:
- Tournament Management:
- Assist with the planning and execution of Michigan PGA Section tournaments, including the Men’s and Women’s Opens, Section Major Championships, PGA TOUR qualifiers, and smaller Section tournaments.
- Assist in the creation and management of tournaments within Golf Genius software (player registration, scoring, logistics, coordination, etc.)
- Provide communication to host site, officials, and players prior to, during, and after the event
- Pre-event travel to the host site to establish the golf course set up for events including marking penalty areas, out of bounds, teeing areas, ground under repair, hole locations, etc.
- Create, prepare and print all collateral materials related to the tournament (scorecards, local rules, cart signs, etc.)
- Provide support in day-to-day administrative tasks including communications, tournament exemptions, pairings, scorecards, officials info, data entry, etc.
- Assist rules officials with pace of play monitoring and event enforcement
- Playing Ability Tests: Administer the PATs, including scheduling, website information, coordination, and player, official and host site communications.
- Marketing and Social Media: Assist Communications Coordinator with the creation of content for the Michigan PGA social media channels, website, newsletters, and other promotional materials.
PGA REACH Michigan Operations:
- PGA REACH Michigan Event Execution: Assist with the planning and execution of PGA REACH Michigan events, including junior golf activities (Drive, Chip & Putt qualifiers, PGA Jr. League Section Championship, Junior PGA Championships) and various fundraising events
- Programming and Event Management:
- Manage events in the scoring software and ensure accuracy in event results
- Assist in the communications, coordination, set up and execution of foundation programming events
- Provide on-site support to ensure smooth event flow and a positive participant experience
- Maintain records and reports on event outcomes to improve future programming
- Assisting in the Player Development Grant Program including the administration and oversight of the applications, summaries, and Program of the Year selection process
- Fundraising Events: Assisting in the coordination of fundraising efforts of PGA REACH Michigan (Birdies Fore Charity, Operation: Hero Challenge, Patriot Classic Charity Hockey Game)
- Work closely with host sites to plan and execute successful fundraising events
- Lead fundraising marketing efforts, including social media, email campaigns, and promotional materials
- Manage donor relations, including solicitation, engagement, and stewardship.
- Track fundraising progress and maintain accurate records of donations and sponsorships
- Collaborate with sponsors, vendors, and community partners to enhance fundraising initiatives at the event
- Support logistics, event registration, and on-site coordination for fundraising events
- Develop creative fundraising strategies to increase community involvement and revenue
- Assist with post-event reporting, analysis, and donor appreciation efforts
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Prior experience in golf operations, event management, or tournament administration preferred
- PGA Member Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Golf
- Proficiency in Google Suite products, social media and creative platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Canva, Mailchimp)
- Knowledge and utilization of the Golf Genius tournament management software is preferred
- Excellent communication and customer service
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to travel and work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnight stays as needed
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Annual base salary range of $45,000 - $50,000 commensurate based on qualifications and experience

POSITION & PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
This role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, and communication, with occasional reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities, including close, distance, and color vision, are needed. Employees may work in outside conditions with moderate noise levels and must be able to drive the company vehicle or travel to various locations.
