Title : Refugee Systems of Care Specialist

Location : Remote / Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan

Purpose : The Refugee Systems of Care Specialist position will provide critical supports to the home visiting system in Michigan as it adjusts to better meet the needs of unique refugee populations in the state. By supporting planning, training, resource development, technical assistance, and data tracking, this position will act as an important connector between home visiting programs and the best / promising practices that allow them to reach and serve refugee communities. The Refugee Systems of Care Specialist will be a critical support to home visiting providers serving refugee families in Michigan.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Planning

  • Learn, understand, and respond to the needs of home visiting programs to better serve the needs of refugee populations.
  • Explore and suggest model and programmatic enhancements to improve cultural responsiveness and trauma informed practices.
  • Support the development and execution of an action plan to respond to the needs of home visiting programs serving refugee families

Training, Technical Assistance, and Resource Development

  • Educate and inform home visiting programs about the Refugee Systems of Care project.
  • Represent the Refugee Systems of Care projectat relevant meetings.
  • Through one-on-one and group supports to local implementing agencies (LIAs), develop and provide trainings and workshops aimed at educating LIAs on refugee-responsive home visiting practices, including recruitment and coordination with outside experts to co-facilitate trainings.
  • Develop resources to support LIAs, including toolkits and resource guides.
  • Coordinate in-person and virtual group supports for LIAs, such as Communities of Practice, Learning Collaboratives, and Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Manage and update project Groupsite page with trainings, resources, visually adapted materials, and / or translated materials available to LIAs.
  • Data Tracking

  • Support strategies to track reach, effectiveness and contract expectations of the Refugee Systems of Care project.
  • Collect ongoing feedback from key partners, including refugee populations and local home visiting programs, on Refugee Systems of Care project.
  • Update Customer Relationship Management system to ensure the team has accurate information to maintain strong relationships with our external partners
  • Support efforts to collect and analyze existing data and minimize burden on LIAs to collect and manage data relating to the project
  • Administrative / MPHI Responsibilities

  • Attendance at meetings and / or conferences as needed.
  • Support other work of the Center for Quality Family Support (CQFS) and the Michigan Home Visiting System, as needed.
  • Maintain a positive, strong, credible, professional interpersonal relationship with all parties of MPHI projects, andrepresents the best interest of MPHI at all times.
  • Participate in ongoing strategic planning and other special projects for the Center for Quality Family Support, Center for Healthy Communities and MPHI.
  • Maintain position-specific and MPHI-required internal training requirements.
  • Understand and uphold MPHI's Core Values of Servant Leadership, Health Equity and Social Justice, Authentic Relationships, and Quality and Excellence.

  • Qualifications / Requirements :

    Education : Bachelor's Degree required; however, a range of educational / experiential combination will be considered to best meet the needs of this position.

    Important Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Experience :

  • Experience working with refugee populations required.
  • Experience with systems of care focused on the needs of refugee populations preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing language access plan for limited English proficiency clients preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with home visiting, experience with Infant Mental Health, Maternal Infant Health Program, and Nurse Family Partnership preferred.
  • Ability to speak at least one language of local refugee populations preferred, including but not limited to : Arabic, Dari, Kibembe, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, or Spanish.
  • Basic awareness of human service programming / systems.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and be able to work well independently and with a team in a virtual environment.
  • Ability to assess local home visiting staff training and support needs related to local refugee populations.
  • Knowledge of developing educational sessions and related materials / communications.
  • Meeting facilitation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail demonstrating quality and excellence.
  • Comfort and ability to work independently with a wide range of computer applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, assignments and deadlines and prioritize accordingly.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Must live within the state of Michigan and be able to travel throughout the region in focus.
  • Work Environment and Physical Requirements : Position is remote with expectation of attendance at scheduled in-office and community-based meetings. MPHI provides a workstation that includes a laptop computer, two monitors and a docking station. Employee must provide an adequate workspace that is for designated work time and high-speed internet connection. Regular meetings will take place via video conferencing. Occasional in-person meeting attendance required. In-state residency and travel required. This position involves viewing a computer screen 50-100% of the time.

    Impact on Projects, Services, and Operations : The Refugee Systems of Care Specialist directly impacts the quality of products, and the performance of project teams to which they are assigned. This position has substantial impacts on the integrity and quality of MPHI products and activities. Competent performance in this position has a substantial impact on the integrity and professional reputation of MPHI including meetings the needs of MPHI partners in a timely manner, maintaining professional relationships, and enhancing the future potential future contracts with clients.
