Description

Technically, you understand application development environments, applications deployment processes and industry standard automation tools like Terraform and Ansible. You have experience working with cloud environments like Azure and AWS and you have recent and direct experience working with DevOps tools and GitOps in a fast-paced Agile environment.

Personally, you are knowledgeable and curious. You love digging into modern technologies and figuring out how to incorporate what they offer into the organization's daily operations to improve efficiency and employee experience. You understand different people have unique needs to be productive and you strive to develop and deliver self-service-oriented solutions.

Professionally, the DevOps Engineer will collaborate closely with development and engineering teams to implement, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines. This role will streamline development processes, optimize operations through automation, and ensure a seamless developer experience. The ideal candidate possesses a growth mindset, prioritizing understanding over mere functionality. Experience in hybrid cloud environments, proficiency with automation tools and the ability to reconcile diverse developer needs are essential.

Work Arrangement: This position is a remote within the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois), hybrid, or onsite role. A schedule of expected onsite and remote work days will be discussed during the interview process. To be considered for this role, candidate must currently reside, or have plans to reside upon hire, within the Great Lakes Region as described above (Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois). Occasional travel to MSUFCU Headquarters (East Lansing, MI) may be required (less than 5% of time).

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm Eastern Standard Time

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $80,000-105,000 dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development and engineering teams to design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Streamline development processes by automating manual tasks and integrating automated testing and deployment processes.
  • Optimize operations through infrastructure as code (IaC) principles, using tools like Terraform and Ansible to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration.
  • Ensure a seamless developer experience by reconciling differing needs and requirements, providing effective solutions that enhance productivity and collaboration.
  • Document detailed service designs and troubleshooting processes for peers and general IT staff.
  • Write, develop, and manage code to facilitate development, code deployment and infrastructure automation workflows.
  • Support and enhance existing source code management and infrastructure automation platforms.
  • Support organization's container infrastructure platform.
  • Collaborate with other teams on effective utilization coverage, tool feature management, and expansion of resources as required.
  • Champion and build automated processes wherever feasible.
  • Provide input in technical decision-making involving systems and tools used to automate and deploy applications and infrastructure.
  • Understand and work within parameters of existing IT change management process.
  • Participate in a weekly 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate synchronously and asynchronously with a distributed team.
  • Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned.
  • Define and establish test, development, release, update, and support processes for the organization's DevOps operations.
  • Working with Cloud and Infrastructure Architects, lead the implementation of cloud services that comply with the organization's security and technology standards.
  • Lead automation of provisioning of cloud services using infrastructure as code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Azure Resource Manager in a GitOps environment.
  • Create and review documentation and detailed service designs, usage, and troubleshooting processes for peers and consumers.
  • Collaborate in the creation of standards, guidelines, and artifacts for developers and engineers who will develop solutions based on these standards.
  • With an operational focus, document and build processes and tooling to drive adoption of best practices in continuous integration (CI) pipelines, code testing/scanning and environmental monitoring in an existing GitOps environment.
  • Evaluate and implement modern technologies and tools to improve automation and streamline operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years' experience in automating system tasks and infrastructure with configuration management tools (Ansible), infrastructure orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform).
  • Practical administration experience in Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) as a server platform, practical experience of organization of highly available clusters.
  • 1-2 years' of demonstrated proficiency using and applying Infrastructure and Networking concepts and management protocols including:
    • Scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell
    • Common data serialization types (JSON, YAML, XML)
    • Version control using git.
    • CI/CD (GitLab experience preferred)
    • Log management (Graylog or Microsoft Sentinel experience preferred).
    • Experience using Observability platform such as Prometheus or Data Dog.
  • Familiarity with structure and usage of REST, SOAP, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Thorough knowledge of:
    • Cloud-native development
    • Container technologies like Docker (Operational experience to Kubernetes in a production environment a plus)
    • Microservice design and architectural patterns
    • Complex event processing and event-driven architecture
  • Able to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues.
  • Interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, questioning skills, and ability to relate to other people at their knowledge level.
  • Highly organized and have superior analytical problem-solving skills.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

    • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
    • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
    • Occasionally needs to move about inside of office area.
    • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
    • This position is able to work in remote, hybrid, or onsite working arrangements.
