Football Athletic Trainer III
Position Summary
Michigan State Athletics is searching for an Athletic Trainer III to manage the health care related issues for the football athletes. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :
- Manages the health care related issues for the athletes of the assigned team.
- Works with the team physician to coordinate the athlete's health care.
- Provides information and the athletes plan to the coaches and staff as needed.
- Evaluates injuries in order to treat and execute appropriate referrals
- Designs rehabilitation exercises for injuries sustained by the athletes.
- Follows Emergency Action Plans. Triages injuries and administers emergency care.
- Organizes and maintains daily medical records, including daily treatment logs using a computerized sports injury management program and Electronic Medical Records.
- Educates and counsels coaching staffs, athletes, physicians, co-workers, students, parents, and consultants.
- Implements return to sport programs
- Designs special pads and checks equipment in order to ensure safety and prevent injuries.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
- Collaborates with Sport Performance and Nutrition personnel.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelors degree work, such as a Masters in Physical Education, with relevant coursework in athletic training; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in all aspects of athletic training or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
Desired Qualifications
BOC Certification and Michigan Licensure (or eligible for MI licensure); minimum of eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in all aspects of athletic training. Experience with football; preferably as the Head Football AT.
