Summary

As a member of the Media Technology Services team, a Media Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting in planning, designing, procurement, installation, programming, implementation, maintenance, support, and periodic operation of university media technology systems. The systems include Crestron, Q-SYS and Extron controlled audio / visual systems, video streaming systems, IP video production facilities, digital signage systems and DSP enabled audio systems in classrooms, conference rooms, entertainment venues, and research facilities. Additionally, assist in the creation of technical documentation as needed. You will become part of a culture that empowers employees, treats them with respect, and encourages innovation and open communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation of A / V designs (to include control, video, audio, and networking schematics) as part of engineering design packages that include blended learning facilities as well as multimedia enabled research, large venue, and presentation facilities.
  • Provide hands-on installation and technical support during the installation and maintenance of these facilities as necessary.
  • Assist in the generation of list of materials, budgets, and requests for proposals / quotations.
  • Collaborate with campus representatives such as facility engineers, IT engineers, faculty, staff, and students during the planning and development of new buildings and the renovation of existing facilities.
  • Ensure the technical integrity, performance, reliability, and user friendliness of supported systems. Required to conduct usability studies to support this goal.
  • Stay up to date on developments of industry technologies, maintain current technical knowledge, maintain a high level of competency with blended learning technologies, and provide recommendations for modifications and improvements of methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Maintain and gain technical expertise, certifications, and current knowledge for video industry best practices and technology, and act as the University’s technical resource for technologies in assigned field. Recommend modifications or changes that will improve efficiency and / or effectiveness.
  • Assist with the training of student employees and peers on internal processes and technology used and / or implemented.
  • Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

Associate's degree in electronics technology, computer networking and system administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience

1 to 2 years of demonstrated experience in A / V or broadcast media system design, installation and maintenance or comparable experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and / or Abilities

  • Ability to complete Q-SYS and Crestron training assigned and demonstrated proficiency within 10 months of hire.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and reasoning skills.
  • Experience designing, programming, and installing media systems.
  • Knowledge of Q-SYS and / or Crestron AV products.
  • Audio-visual troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to express full ownership and accountability for projects and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work from schematics, blueprints, and engineering data.
  • Demonstrate commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, and twist, work in an equipment rack from a sitting position.

  • Occasionally, the employee may be required to work from a ladder or scaffolds, in manholes, in telecommunications rooms, or outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel an object.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
