What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Assistant position at Michigan United Credit Union?
Overview
The Accounting Assistant will work with the accounting team to ensure the credit union members financial needs are met along with the processing and reconciliation of the credit union books and records.
The job duties of this position include:
- Performs accounting functions, including daily settlement processing and balancing of all main office and branch transactions.
- Processes member account adjustments, reconciles the core system to the general ledger, reconciles assigned general ledger accounts and processes accounts payable transactions.
- Processes daily settlement clearings including, but not limited to ACH exceptions, ACH PACHSU, draft exceptions, card balancing, shared branch balancing, remote deposit capture, return items, wires, accounts payable, electronic payment processing, ACH origination, member resolution, general ledger reconciliation, ATM/Branch verification, and return item chargebacks,
- Ensures member account adjustments are processed in a timely manner.
- Balances assigned general ledger accounts and notifies the CFO if any general ledger is out of balance for more than three (3) days and ensuring communication is continued until issue is resolved.
- Manages Accounts Payable by paying all invoices in a timely and effective manner along with keeping up with any changes while ensuring that all procurement and cash management credit union policies and procedures are followed.
- Processes corporate credit card invoices for appropriate management personnel.
- Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
- Strictly adheres to MUCU organizational and operational policies and procedures including Attendance, Tardiness, etc. in order to best serve members and staff.
- Cross sells credit union products and services to current and potential members based on goals determined by management.
- Participates in special department projects.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or two (2) or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of a background in accounting or a financial institution. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the financial industry.
- Knowledge of general accounting, and related accounting and record keeping systems in a financial institution.
- Strong intermediate to advanced skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, and word processing and spreadsheet software programs such as Microsoft Office products.
- Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
- Strong intermediate to advanced math and statistical skills; calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of graphs and other mathematic instruments.
- Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to members and employees.
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work with little supervision while performing duties.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
